USP Expert ?

Hey folks, I’ve recently been contemplating an HK Expert in 9mm and I’m honestly looking for some opinions on it as it would be kind of a nostalgic firearm purchase for me, I’d wanted one in the 90’s but it just never happened.
The only real exposure I had with one was a friend from work who owned one and let me shoot it a couple times, we’d sometimes swap guns at the range if we ran into each other. I remember it was very accurate shooting slow fire on paper but I don’t remember much more about shooting it than that.
Thing is these days I usually just do self defense drills with my carry guns or I’ll practice transitions on my steel plate racks at a bunch of different distances with a CZ 75B SA.
Is this HK expert still relevant today for that money or should I just get a shadow 2, Tactical Sport 2, etc… and leave this HK and the nostalgia I’m feeling in the past?

I have Experts in 9mm and .45 (keeping an eye out for a .40 as well) and thoroughly enjoy them. All the reliability of the standard USP, plus the extra accuracy of the fitted barrel and match trigger.
The Elite (shown with the
Expert) is what I would consider a purely Competition model as it is bordering on unwieldy with the longer slide and barrel.
The Expert, however, hits a sweet spot in the USP line, blending duty size with match accuracy.
That said, as much as I love my USPs, there are some downsides other than expense. Finding holsters for the Expert was annoying as most vendors seem to have forgotten the model. Additionally, HK has never updated the rail system, so lights usually require an adapter. And you definitely will notice the high bore axis under recoil, especially with a nearly empty magazine.
Even with these downsides, I still highly recommend the Experts. They are impressively good shooters and are amazingly reliable.

I've only my USP Expert in .45ACP, which is setup for HD. This thing is 100% concentrated awesomeness in a handgun. Shoots almost as good as my tuned 1911's and SIG P220 Legion SAO RXP, and is a much better suppressor host (threaded barrel USP's are much better suppressor hosts). There's also the legitimate "coolness" factor of owning & shooting this extremely over-built and highly functional .45ACP lead slinger. I had the notion to look at having it milled for an optic, then a heavy inanimate object struck me in the head and knocked some sense back into me. Other HK's maybe, but NOT a USP (or Mark23, for that matter)...

HA! Good to go, and wise words of wisdom.

I'm just a "boot" when it comes to being under canopy with only 104 military free fall jumps, 239 high/low level static line jumps, and 1,617 civilian sky-dives. We've got some military personnel in their tens of thousands of jumps. I don't like gravity, but I'm certainly good at validating it.;)

I'm gonna keep my USP Expert as is, and I did end up adding a USP Tactical night sight up front. I saw an Elite .45ACP in my LGS but it "looked" a bit strange with it's longer (and rounded) slide.

I have 1202 jumps. Civilian.

I have both a .45 and a 9 Expert with the Jet Funnel. Great guns . I got the 9mm 3 years ago for a smokin deal .
A very large LGS had a one day inventory reduction sale for guns that had been there awhile. Well there on the sales table was a NIB Expert with the jet funnel for $832.00 ! The sales manager said they had 4 of them that had been sitting back in inventory for several years . Unknown why they were never put out in the display case .
Needless to say I whipped out the Visa card and bought one .

Wow, that was a nice score for short money. If the one I’d been looking at was priced anything like that I’d have brought it home on the first visit.
I shouldn’t have shown interest in the gun till I was 100% decided on it as the shop jacked the price $250 between that visit and my next. With that my interest in buying has faded a good bit.

Took the time to track down and add a jet funnel, ambi-control lever, match trigger return spring, match sear, and match hammer spring to my new USP Tactical to essentially turn it into a USP Expert.

Here it is seen above my "micro-compact" .45ACP shooter for AIWB carry...:ROFLMAO:

Earlier this week I was looking at and seriously considering a new old stock 9mm Expert. (I have a couple P7's and a VP9sk, so not afraid of HK's)

I ended up buying a very lightly used CZ Shadow 2 with a full CGW Pro Package etc. It fit my hand FAR better, and justb seemed like I would have more fun with it.

The i-DOT red dot mounting work offered by Wright Armory won me over to the point where I ventured out to find a like-new slide to send them for the milling of an HE508T to my stellar USP45 Expert (while keeping the original slide intact). They did a phenomenal job, and I will be sending other "extra" slides from my other HK's for the same work.

1000% worth it, you won't be disappointed except maybe for the fact you took as long thinking about it. Depending on how close to & devoted you are to your Expert, you may or may not want to source an extra slide for the milling work.
