I am considering an underbed safe to keep an AR pistol, 28 inches collapsed, and a Glock 48 safe from unauthorized access, up to and including smash and grab crackheads. I've been looking at reviews and videos nearly all day and there seems to be no clear winner. The SnapSafe got reviews saying that all you have to do is force the handle and it will pop right open so that one is a no-go. The AMSEC Defense Vault and Stealth DV652 appear to be the same product and neither comes with a mechanical backup so they are out. The Buffalo Tools underbed safe looks pretty good but is unavailable everywhere that I've looked. The Hornady RAPiD AR looks okay but seems like it might be easy to pry open fairly quickly. The best of them all appears to be the Monster but HOLY COW, that price tag! It's more than twice the price of anything else I looked at.

Who is using what for underbed security, and what is your overall impression?

What's to stop them from simply carrying it away? And if you need a weapon in a hurry good luck! If it's security from children a bedside simplex lock box is all you need. Otherwise keep it loaded and within an arm's reach. Meanwhile if it's for multiple guns (and they do reproduce) start saving your pennies for a real safe.

I agree.

I already have a real safe. I need something that allows me to have access to home defense weapons without having to walk them across the house every morning to put them away when I leave for work and then take them out and walk them across the house again every night. With an underbed safe, I just pop the door open when I go to bed at night and pop the door shut again when I get ready to leave for the day. What stops them from carrying it away is bolting it to the floor just like any other safe. I have yet to see a "bedside simplex lock box that will accommodate an AR15 or 18" Benelli M1.

Do you have any suggestions that would meet my requirements?
A solid core exterior door on bedroom? A “safe” buys time. Maybe 30 minutes for determined, planned burglar. A sheet metal locker should stop kids, delay opportunistic bunglers. (Who shouldn’t find it in you made your bed). ;)
Any underbed I could think of would fall to decent pry bar. Or sledge hammer.

That's all I'm looking for, something to keep my teenagers' hands off them when I'm not home, and to keep a smash and grab thief, not a determined thief, from getting them. Heck, a determined thief would probably cart my 1100 pound upright away before he bothered with an underbed that probably only has two guns in it.

I don’t have one, but the SecureIt Fastbox seems like a good option.

I ended up getting the Buffalo Tools UBSafe and it is exactly what I was looking for. It is made from 14ga steel, not 16ga like the others I was looking at. It has a keypad that allows for two separate combinations, not on my list of wants, but a nice feature. It also has a backup key lock so if something should go wrong with the electronic lock, it can still be opened with a key. It is also quite spacious inside, allowing for probably up to three long guns and a few handguns and other small items. It weighs 130 pounds and comes with lag bolts for attachment to the floor so not easy to just carry away. I'm VERY happy with this product and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something in this size range.
