Trijicon HD vs HD XR

Kinda set on trijicon to upgrade from my stock Glock sights. Wondering if anyone has experience with both sights listed in the title. I know the only difference is a thinner front sight with the XR but I’ve heard it makes a big difference. I’ll be putting this on my G26 which is my main carry gun but I also like to shoot it at the range. Suggestions? I haven’t been able to compare the two in person myself.

Was lucky enough to stop by trijicon at the NRA expo in dallas this year. Played with all colors, variations, etc.

I have the HD on my G19 and the HD XR’s on G17 and G26. My wife wants to steal the HD XR’s off mine and put on her 17 and 26! They are the chartreuse color, picks up sweet for me indoor and outdoor. She prefers the orange.

Now, as far as the difference goes on the sights... if you’re truly focusing on the front sight like you should... you won’t notice a difference. But that is labor and work to do correctly. Transitioning targets, be it plates, targets, gssf, etc. the HD XR’s will win. That little bit of space will allow you to stay focused on your front sights during transition which is sweeter, faster, and sexier. I noticed a huge help on plate racks at gssf using them but that may just be me. Either sight is really nice. Please note that my wife and I both agree that we like the rear sight on these as well. Why? The rear sight does have tritium in it, but the dots are really small and do not distract you from your front sight. That seems to be huge for accuracy and focus. All in all, we approve!!!

Hope this helps, left me know if I can clarify anything further for you.

All the Best!

Merldizzle,

Do you know the width of the rear sight notch? I may try to buy some XR front sight assemblies and retain the standard HD rears.

Thanks,
Keith

I assume this topic has been discussed ad nauseam, considering there's only one response here. Well, I'll open it back up!

I have the Ameriglos (XR equivalent) on my 19X as I upgraded from the crappy Glock "night sights." I don't mind the standard Glock sights at all but the night sights that come from Glock are poor in most lighting conditions.

I'm going to pick up the Gen 5 G26 and am trying to decide between the Ameriglos that are an available option from the factory vs. going with the Trijicon XR.

Now, I've heard that Ameriglo makes many of the Trijicon sights for Trijicon. In fact, a guy at my LGS just today said that he's seen Ameriglo on the side of "Trijicon" sights that came out of Trijicon packaging. Perhaps someone here with more knowledge can further elaborate on this.

Trijicon seems to be brighter, at least in the yellow sights.

I do notice a big difference between the XR and XD. XD certainly provides fast target acquisition at self defense ranges, but so does the XR. If you train front sight shooting, I don't think you'll notice much difference at all. And if the XRs are more accurate down range, they certainly won't be less accurate out to 21 feet.
