Recently I have seen quite a few people cutting out part of the underside of their trigger guard. Is there some advantage this provides that I am unaware of? Or is it done mainly for appearance? I can't see the logic behind it, but it would not be the first time I have learned something. Thanks!

I still don't get it - my grip is as high as it could possible go, on the back strap, where it matters, so I can't see any advantage to moving my fingers up 1/4" on the front strap. I lean toward thinking it's like stippling grips - an unnecessary modification people do just because it's something they can modify.
