But I expect all my guns to be able to serve as a defensive tool if necessary.
Any recommendations for or against this pistol?

Such as? Without going over the $1,200 price point? That’s about as much as I’m willing to spend on any handgun.I am not a fan of any kimber 1911 due to many repair and function problems.. but maybe you will do fine.. if reliability is important there are many other 1911's with better odds.
That would be a way better gun. All the features you need. Nothing you don't need. I had one a few years ago. It was a 2016, or so model year. Very well fitted. I also bought a well worn one for 355.00 ten or so years ago. Should have kept that one. But the current 2 tone models are supurb. A local gun shop had all models of this configuration. I checked over 3 different guns. All looked very well made. The one I personally would have bought would have been the government or commander in 45. But, after thinking about it a 9MM commander would be a great gun too. Yes, they are very expensive but theres very nice features.
Cool. Yeah, I'm looking at a .45 ACP Government size model. I'd be open to a Commander, but I don't intend it for daily carry, so I'm not sure why I would go shorter. The colt would be a fine choice in my opinion and the colts tend to hold value well. A far better choice than the kimber in my opinion.
