Talk me out of a Geissele Super Modular Rail MK8 M-LOK

I removed my older DD Omega quad rail from my Sabre Defence and put it on my son's Bushmaster. In a desire to go sleeker and lighter I have decided on the Geissele Super Mod MK8 M-Lok (comes with low profile gas block). There are so many rail options out there it becomes overwhelming, but I keep coming back to the Geissele. Anyone have a negative experience with GA rails? Would my money be better spent elsewhere? This would be my first free float rail.

Rails are all over the place for a lot less than this one and do the same thing. Don't by a name. My MI came with gas block and wrench they all come with barrel nut & screws. Didn't pay half of what that one is. You need to shop around.

Does your rifle have the fsb on now? The geisselle block is designed to be pinned I believe. On a virgin barrel probably the most secure mounting there is. However, and this is my limited experience and neurosis talking. I don't think I would want to add a third pinning slot on a barrel. Again thats my neurotic view a gov profile barrel probably has a ton of meat in that area and it wouldn't affect anything.

Other than that the only negatives I've heard on the geissele were price.

Yep he would have to clean up the barrel. That's what I did on my S&W Sport and don't buy a name $$$$

I don't own one, but Geissele rails have the reputation of being some of the toughest rails out there. I don't even think the price is bad. If you count the gas block, the price is actually very good. Whether you think you need/want the Geissele is up to you, but I doubt you'll be disappointed. Personally, I prefer a little slimmer and lighter, which also happens to be a little cheaper. If I were in the market now, I'd be looking at the BCM MCMR.

Shave the existing front sight base.

If I were going to buy a rail today, it would be a BCM.

No experience with the Geissele rail, but ALL their parts are top shelf.

Buy once, cry once.

Looks like it has set screws as well. With nice gas block included, the price isn't so insane.
I paid 115. for my 15" Midwest came with gas block, nut wrench, nut, screws. I don't know how many rails you've bought, but they all come with the nut and screws. Haven't had one yet that didn't. I've got four nut wrenches.

I watched a video of Bill G. taking one of his rifles with their Geissele rail and repeated throw it down on a concrete step, anything attached was pretty destroyed but the rail. This video was in response to some guy who was having issues with his G. rail staying properly attached, in the end the customer was mounting it incorrectly or may have had a defective screw. It was a pretty eye opening video on the toughness of their product.

As if some of you have tried area precision to know the difference ?? They do make products for others Big Brand Names too and there AR business is just a side line for them . Beside 2 piece plastic seems to have work well for many years too . HA

raidercop Buy what YOU want . Research is easy .

I would have a tough time talking anyone out of buying anything Geissele. If you have the money, then by all means get the rail.

Geissele is the shelf you place above the top shelf.

Another company that co-occupies that rarefied air is Scalarworks.

Wow......I take it you didn’t read the OP’s thread title? Or even read his post? He wants opinions, that what he got.

I don’t think he asked for argumentative BS about Aero Precision. I’m fully aware of their involvement with the aircraft industry. But as far as them and the AR industry, they are mediocre at best. Great parts for the money, but nowhere near quality of Geissele.

I have a 15" Mk4 with the built in rail sections on a SPR style build I did for my wife. It is pretty much bomb proof. Since it's basically a quad rail without the picatinny, it is a fairly large in over all profile. If I was looking for a shorter rail for a carbine or SBR, I would really look at the new MK14 with it's thinner profile (my other ARs wear KMRs, so I'm used to a thinner profile rail).

If you want to go Geissele, the time to do it is when they are on sale. They regularly do 20-30% off on major holidays, etc. I bought a rail, scope mount, and trigger during their Black Friday sale. Their Super Precision scope mounts are works of art. I was very impressed with the quality of both the rail and scope mount.

As far as Geissele vs. Aero goes, I just did an Aero AR .308 build with a buddy. His upper, lower, and rail were all nice parts, but they are not in the same league as the G products (nor do they claim to be).

Edit to add: I really like the rail and scope mount, but I don't know if I would have bought them if they had not been on sale. On sale they were a great deal!

I'm happy with mine. The newer ones are supposed to be slightly different and may have tabs instead of the anti-rotation set screws. (I haven't seen it, just heard someone b****ing about the design change a while back.)

Bottom line is the OP can figure out what to but buy do searches . I just can't look at geissele as being all that . To many others just as good or better do to price .

On some reviews of handguards geissele is not in the top 5 even .

No. Just what I bought first. Very happy with it.

Personally I don't really understand this M-LOK/Keymod fad over the last few years. Integrated picatinny rails are a lot more solid and robust than either alternative. I do understand on like an SPR AR15 build you don't really need all that rail space but something like a KAC URX seems to make sense where they give you integrated rails where need them but not where you don't, yet do have some bolt on rails if you do happen to need them on the side otherwise they have some cover there instead. For these shorter rifles it just seems pointless, its not like they really add that much weight, and sure they're like a cheese grater on your hand but rail covers are a thing and its not like they are few and far between. And lastly and MOST IMPORTANTLY of all, Keymod and M-LOK just look terrible compared to standard quad rails.
