Does anyone have experience with using a small backpack to carry their pistol? I heard someone talking recently about using one when they go to the dentist or doctor and using a IWB holster is not feasible. I would appreciate any suggestions.

If you are open to a sling style pack, I highly recommend the Kelty CCW sling or the 5.11 COVRT ZAP 6 pack. The Kelty being the smaller of the two offers a single CCW pocket with full loop backing for your hook backed holster of choice, along with a larger middle pocket and a small front pocket. The 5.11 bag also has a dedicated loop backed pocket with several additional pockets and water bottle pouches on the side.

Here are mine with my G48 for size reference.

Along with a shameless plug for my Recycled Firefighter 12hr pack I've been using exclusively these days. That being said, I'm going to be getting rid of probably 20 bags I've been hoarding, and will probably be getting rid of the Kelty and 5.11 if you are interested (I just rarely carry off body these days).

Since I don't picture grown-ups walking around town or going to the doctor or dentist with backpacks, I'd say:

As an added bonus, it is much easier to get your gun out of a briefcase than a backpack. If I'm wearing jeans, I also have a nylon one.

5.11/ MOAB 6 work"s for me.
I carried one of these for years. Work stuff, small tools, meds, etc. in addition to my sidearm and mags. Large enough to be useful and small enough to lock in a desk drawer if I needed to.

Thank you for the pics - that really helps. Sent you a PM.

Most of the time pocket carry works for me to be discrete, but I do have a Maxpedition Remora that I use sometimes when I want to carry some extra items with me. Usually I use it with my G26 and still have my P3AT in my pocket. It's pretty small and still quick to access the gun, but it is kinda tactical looking.

Last year when I starting on my chemo I wanted a bag large enough for a laptop so I researched bags that size and decided on the Dynamis Alliance LVL Comp Bag. The LVL is Low Vis Lifestyle and this is the smaller bag they offer. I liked it because it was simple, but practical. It can be used as a sling with a single strap or a backpack with two straps. I bought a BlackArch Rev-Con holster with their Velcro holster mount and a mag mount. It's a little expensive, but this setup will last the rest of my life.

One thing different from the other slings that I looked at is that you sling it and open it with your weak hand and your strong hand is right there to grab the weapon.

When I go to the dentist or the doctor, I pocket carry a Seecamp 32 ACP. Otherwise I EDC a Glock 19.

Just a question. This looks like a person could remove their gun in the holster and temporarily leave combined in the briefcase for the dental visit then go back to IWB carry while never separating the gun from the holster. Which also keeps the gun in your possession.

That is what I often do. I commonly travel a long way, in a government owned car, then have to go in a courthouse where no guns are allowed. I put my gun and holster in the briefcase and usually leave it there, unless I also go somewhere that I want to put it on. I generally use an ankle or paddle holster.

Sounds great thanks.
