Hey all,

Anyone have any suggestions on safely storing an AR, pump shotgun and two pistols in a new apartment! Looking for a reasonably priced safe or locker.

Thanks!

JAS

Here is my suggestion. It's a little unnerving leaving them completely exposed especially in an apartment. In my private home with very few visitors I can accept it for what it does.

I have one of those for my HD shotgun. It lives in the coat closet by the front door. Not visible at all unless you open the door and move some coats. Well worth the money in my opinion.

Be sure to use long screws into a stud when you mount it. Don't want a thief having too easy a time prying it off the wall. I installed carriage bolts through the wall and a second metal plate on the other side of the wall (inside the garage). Unless you saw through the stud first, you are not getting it.

My problem is in the new place I have a wardrobe on the bedroom, not a closet, and I still want quick access to something other than my g19. Maybe some something under the bed, View attachment 238047 I'm goin to try and attach a pic of the wardrobe

There is a company that sells a bed safe, designed to replace your box spring.

I would look into hiding it more than locking it. You can spend a lot of time and money trying to lock it when stashing it in an odd place will likely accomplish a similar goal. I'm thinking something more like a loose baseboard or under a night stand for exotic. A kitchen panty is not usually searched by thieves I wouldn't think. Just a thought

I just have a small gun safe. Stack On brand. Sure they could walk off with it if they wanted but keeps honest people honest. Keeps it out of the hands of kids (if you have any around).

I keep my guns and ammo in there. Its pretty heavy.

One AR, one pump shotgun and 2 pistols...

Hmm...
See that gap along the left side of the closet system...close it off with a piece of matching trim and install this into the left side of the closet system,

It's hinged the right way and it's somewhat hidden.

I built one of these into one of my cabinets,

I'm not a fan of having a gun safe obviously visible in my home.

Security comes in layers. As you're a renter, you are limited in your efforts to make the entire complex less attractive to burglars. What floor are you on? Is your apartment within reach of an extension ladder? Consider a stronger or extra lock on your doors. If there's a fire escape, take steps to insure a difficult entry from the fire escape.

A safe, securely bolted to the floor and/or walls is your only option. It should be heavy enough that a single burglar would not be able to muscle it out on his own. If there's extra room in the safe, add lead weight to make it even heavier.

I'm reminded of an old western movie where a stage coach company, in an effort to thwart robberies, stopped shipping gold in small ingots and, instead, cast it into one giant ingot that no one could transport on horseback.
