Some of you may know this, I didn't and discovered it after about 1.5 hrs sorting it out. You can benefit from my time.
I was reassembling a G19 slide after having it milled and coated. The insert was/is pretty tight going in and I screwed up the first one. I couldn't get it out with the usual brush techniques and started breaking it up.
After fracturing all I could I could still not get it out. Ugh!
I tried melting some of the chips with acetone, nope. Damn!
I hade been trying to clear out the insert with a snug drill bit. Nope.
I knew that when people forget to remove them before putting them in a oven they warp etc.
Then I thought about the warping in heat. I took a spare and applied some heat with a mini torch. It started melting and burning, it's a piece of delrin!
I put the bit in a vice, heated the bit w/o making it glow, just good and hot. Inserted the bit and wiggled it around making sure it made contact with all sides. Viola the insert collapsed onto the bit and out it came. I cleaned out the channel and remembered to put a light film on the inside. Seated it and all is good.
And here is the gun. No I'm not asking for your opinion on whether serrations are good or not, nor am I asking if you like the color (ghost gray). Please don't give your "glock talk" snarky, responses.
This is info is for people who might find it useful.
