After handling this pistol a few days ago in my LGS, I must say I was very impressed. I didn’t think I’d like it, as it’s a lot different than a traditional Staccato 2011. Wow, was I wrong.

What I wasn’t wrong about is that it’s a lot different than a 2011. This pistol feels outstanding in hand. The grip texture is perfect and better than any other Staccato I own or have handled. The grip itself is more comfortable than a 2011 grip, especially Staccato’s with the grip safety. The HD is pinned.

Quality-wise, this HD feels a little higher grade than my XL and XC. While I can’t put my finger on exactly why, the whole gun feels tighter and more solid.

The trigger is metal, not plastic. That is a departure from Staccato’s 2011’s and definitely an upgrade. While I know this HD has a firing pin safety, which I don’t like on a 1911/2011, it does not seem to affect trigger pull.

Weight with an empty Mec-gar magazine is about 35oz, which I love and gives it a degree of heft. The balance also feels perfect in hand. The DLC finish is great and this one had the glossy black DLC finish on the barrel, which looks awesome. I like everything about it, frankly.

Overall a very high quality carry and range option. Not cheap at $2700, but not too crazy either. I think I may grab one for the range next month. I like unique pistols and this is definitely that.

Any other thoughts on this new pistol?

I saw your post and had to google for a photo. I tend to agree with you regarding the rear sight. Have to wonder why it’s so far forward,
Because it's an optics focused pistol. Let's the optic sit at the rear of the slide.

this report is good to hear. i ordered 2 of them the week after SHOT and got an email a couple weeks ago that they are both in production and to expect shipping info in 2-3 weeks. that was a pleasant surprise since the website when you order them says 90-120 day lead time. looking forward to getting them in hand.

Thanks for the review.
I have not been able to handle one yet, the only ones I have seen are selling for about $4k in my parts of the world (I am going to take a trip over to the Staccato shop and see what they are like, not a very long trip and the people there have always been pretty accommodating).

Does the forward rear sight affect holstering? Seems like a small thing, but I have bought some handguns ahead of carry options and had to wait on the market to catch up...I am fairly impatient at this point! Could you use a red dot holster for another Staccato model with it? Seems like the cut would be close (or easily modified).

Not sure about the holsters, but I guess that could be an issue. I don’t plan on carrying it if I get one.

They are Unicorns in my area. Are they special order only?

A buddy had a chance at one for $2500 from some goober who is a youtoober and did a review or some crap. But he was short cash when it was offered to him and had to pass.

I doubt I'd ever get one of these, but I am encouraged that the DS 1911 is going away from the stupid 2011 mag.
