Well that’s what I heard online non-stop on the 19x’s release. The plaintiff wails of “They got it backwards!”

But it seems the 19x has sold very well over the last several years, while I’m kinda hearing crickets since the 49’s release 🤷‍♂️

what happened?

I wanted neither. Lol. The 19 is damn near perfect for me!

But yeah, I hear you. I thought the 49 would have been making more waves than it has.

I always thought the 19 was the perfect slide length, but the grip was too short for my hand and slowed my reloads, so I had been calling the Glock 45 the perfect Glock for about 10 years before Glock finally invented it.

Because most everything else is dying, already dead, or on life support. And Glock also released new 10mm and .45 ACP Gen 5 models, so not everything is a 9mm.

Glock really gonna have a bunch of new .45 GAP, .357 Sig, or .30 Super Carry models in their lineup nobody wants or buys? The 49 is a 9mm, so it at least has that going for it as a selling point.

I never wanted a long slide on a short grip. I don’t like guns that feel nose heavy and I don’t like the recoil impulse it provides in a 9mm. The sight radius argument on a self defense gun was weak to begin with and in the age of optics on handguns, it has become a moot point. Improvement in bullet technology has made the added velocity of a longer barrel less meaningful, as bullet expansion from shorter barrels has become more consistent. Just because it’s easy to conceal the barrel of a handgun, doesn’t make it any more comfortable with a longer slide, or mean I want to.

in 9mm, I very much prefer a G45 to a G49. The 9mm is a light recoiling caliber and I prefer guns with more weight toward the grip than the muzzle, as they seem to return more consistently back on target. Similarly, I like the G43X and wouldn’t mind a G26 slide on a G19 length grip. Aside from the color and the night sights, I like the 19X. I often carry AIWB, so the length of the grip has become less important when it comes to concealment. Frankly, the increase in the popularity of AIWB has probably contributed to the trend to higher capacity guns with shorter slides.

I like long slides and I shoot them well. All of us who really wanted a 49 has already built our own long before Glock finally got it right. Lol. Jk. To each his own. I'm not a fan of the 19X of 45. They don't do anything more for me than a 19 does. And my 19LS (pre-49 if you will) shoots insainly smooth; more so than any other model I have

THIS time is when they got it backwards. The short grip/Long barrel works better in theory, but the long grip/short barrel combination points more instinctively and balances better in the hands.

A Staccato is a nice handgun, so nice that everybody is trying to copy it. I wish they would start making .40s and .45s like STI used to. You could get a Staccato XL in .40 for a while but it was the most expensive gun they sold and are now discontinued.

I always wanted the 19L, ie 49. And I am getting one. Should arrive Saturday.

**That said I already have similar in a PSA Dagger with their long slide. In my P80s I have a couple of the compact long slide frames built out. So while I appreciate the 49 finally being released. It’s way long over due. And as late to the party as their 42 & 43.

I had a Glock 22 grip cut down to 23 length and the grip reduction done by Lane at Cold Bore Customs around 14 years ago. Still have it and it is one of my favorite Glocks. I understand the long slide is not for everyone but I like the Glock 49 and think I will get one.

Eh, the 19 and 23 are (to me at least) the two Glocks that should be the most popular, and if you look at polls, they usually are up there at the top. Learn to shoot and one won't need all the meandering models that Glock is putting out.

I never understood the "short grip and long slide" guys. I can see the advantage of the shorter grip, but not the long slide - especially for a CCW gun. I always assumed it was some imaginary belief that they would get improved accuracy and that the accuracy would be worth the extra size and weight.

Some years back, a friend of mine chopped a 19 grip to 26 length. He let me borrow the gun for a couple of months and I had the chance to carry it and shoot it a bit. Really a neat gun. Worked perfectly in the 19 holsters that I had. The best part - there was no rear grip hump. (I've always disliked the 26s rear grip hump.) I almost bought it from him, but in the end returned it to him.

At this point in time, I really don't want or need any other Glock pistols, but that was a cool combo. Never have liked the 19x and the 49 really does nothing for me either.

Good to have choices though, just make mine a Glock 19, specifically my WCV Gen 5 19s.

I bought a G49 today. If you’re already have a G19/G17 I don’t think it’s worth it. But I’m new to Glocks and only own a G45 so it’s a good fit for guys like me.

More than I wanted to pay for sure, but I’m not sure if they’ll be in production for long. They aren’t on Glock’s website, but I noticed my local Cabela’s has them listed(so that bodes well).

I only have 50 rounds through it so far. Feels great in the hand, just like a G19, just a little nose heavy. I slow shot it really well.

I didn’t have my G45 with me. It’s going to be fun shooting all four configurations next time I go to the range.

Give it a little time.

I am a dedicated G19 freak, having owned multiple Gen 3s and Gen 4s, and I don't think I've been without at least one G19 since they were introduced. I currently EDC a G19.4FS and have since 2018. Pretty sure the G49 will be the next Glock I purchase.

My LGS doesn't have one yet available for rental as they're selling every one they receive. I want to run a box thru one before I purchase, but baring some surprise there, I'm pretty sold on the concept.

YMMV.
