It’s well documented that Sig won on cost. Glock also met the full criteria of the military’s request, hence the reason they made it to the down select.

That said I believe the Sig will work ok for the military and at some point I’ll likely pick up a P320 Carry (or M18, if they release it).
Full criteria, would also include cost under that statement.

I have a number of Sigs and Glocks. Sig bore axis is too high allowing too much muzzle flip. Also I have to put my support hand thumb on top of the take down lever - which is ok for about 200 rounds; but I would not want to go through a two or three day training course with the Sig. Glock no problem with muzzle flip and love the slick sided pistol that does not interfere in any way with my grip. Now that being said I do like the Sig.

This has been a great thread, truly. And I appreciate everyone chiming in and giving their thoughts and insightful information.

I think I’m well seated in the fact I’m gonna go with a Glock. Now I just need to decide which one. But I’m almost 100% sure I won’t get the Sig this time around. The reasons for this are stated by my earlier posts in this thread but an additional reason is if this is gonna be my one and only handgun for the time being I want to have full confidence of reliability and longevity and I feel Glock and it’s models have that and have proven that over decades. Even with the new Gen 5 it doesn’t seem they’ve drastically changed things to alter that track record.

Anyways - that’s where I’m currently at. Thanks again guys and this thread can continue to go on as it may be a help to others in the future and added info always helps.

I’ll keep everyone updated on my decision :)

Well damn tells ya how good I payed attention. I didn't get the part about your only pistol at this time. I need to read thing's mo betta. :ack:

The 19X, G45 or a G19 would be a good choice. Check out just a G19 size Glock also. They conceal great if ya decided to carry also.

Haha! Hey if it’s any credit I don’t think I mentioned this fact before about this being my only pistol :)
I’ve owned a G19 before. I liked it - but it eventually got to me that my pinky was only half on the grip all the time. So the 19 is kinda “in-between” worlds for me and I’m not entirely sure about it yet. I MAY but now I’m currently deciding between a 19X/G45 or a G17. A G19 is the 3rd option in my consideration of Glock models.
I prolly need to start a different thread so it doesn’t derail this one.

I for one was very pleased that the conversation remained very objective and didn’t melt down into a battle royalle/fan-boy fest. Excellent work on the thread and keeping it objective.

Best of luck, there was truly no wrong choice here and I’m confident you will be very happy.

I agree with you very much. So glad it stayed balanced and kosher.

Yup, a 19X or G45 would suit you just fine then, plenty of pinky room.

So Sig simply followed Glock's template of lower cost. Sig out Glocked Glock.

The Sig M17 is now offered in BLACK, which is my preference, I took a good at one at my LGS, and it is awesome, from sights to trigger it is well made and thought out gun, Like another poster pointed out, he and I are not into playing Army, black suits me much better, but with that being said, the Sig M17 is a large full size auto and may not be right for all shooters or concealed carriers, and for me my Glock Gen 5 G45 is my favorite perfect Glock...

Glock followed Sig's lead with the P320 Carry by releasing the G45. (I speak from the position of owning both guns).

I like my 19x over my g45.
That being said, I ditched the g45 and ordered a p320 x carry.
Why? I usually carry a 19 but liked the X Carry when it came out so I got two of those as well (made earlier this year so already fixed from the factory). Beautiful pistol.

The blockier grip does fit my bigger hands, yes. The 320 is a bit more rounded than I prefer (I have the same issue with the hammer fired SIGs and the E2, grips). I also prefer a higher grip than the 320 allows, with the exception of the X Frame ones, which I do like.

The 320 trigger may be lighter but I find it mushier and it breaks further back than I prefer, while the Glock may be heavier but it has a nice take up and clear wall that allows very good control. At least for me.

In regards to trigger, lighter isnt always better in my eyes. A clean, crisp, predictable break is my preference.

Frankly, the 320 is pretty low on my list of polymer strikers, being above the XD and M&P but behind pretty much all the rest.

Everyone is different, naturally.

Glocks were my duty pistol before I retired. I liked them OK I guess, but always preferred the classic P-series Sigs or 1911s for personal carry. The 19x was the first Glock in years that got my interest & mine gets carried a lot.

I have large hands & prefer a full size grip, plus the combination of full size grip & compact slide feels more balanced to me. While I wouldn't describe the gen 5 trigger as crisp, it is a big improvement over my previous generation Glocks. Finally, they got rid of the generic finger grooves that are supposed to fit everyone, but manage to not fit anybody I've ever talked to.
