Hey guys,

It's a sort of specific question, but I am in the market for the Safariland 6320 holster. I have both a G17 and a G34 and I'd like to order the G34 version if it will fit both. Anyone have any experience with this specific version, or any of the Safariland 6xxx series G34 holsters fitting G17s?

Thanks,

On duty I have the 6360, and LOVE it. I came from a Raptor Level 2 to a Raptor Level three (which I disliked) to the 6360 and I can only say positive things about it. The main difference between the 6320 and the 6360 is the level of retention, I.E. the 6320 has only the thumb stud release, where as the 6360 has the hood, Thumb stud, friction and mine has the additional sentry lock.

It is in my opinion the finest duty holster I have ever had, or used.

I also have several 6378's for off duty carry. Love them, came from serpa to them and will NEVER go back, or to any other on the belt holster as far as I am concerned. retension is excellent, activation is instinctual I like the thumb release much better then the release on the level 3 raptor.

The 6360 is for a Full size Glock 17/22 but most commonly on duty I have g23 in it. It will lock any small frame Glock 17/22 23/32 26/27. The best way to describe the draw is straight out of the holster, as you hand grips the gun your thumb depresses the thumb stud and also applies downward pressure to start the draw. The longer the gun obviously the longer the draw.

If you have a 34 get the 34 sized holster. you will also be able to utilize it for the 17. But not a 17 holster for a 34 since the end of the holster is curved in.

Yes you can replace the Paddle with a belt loop attachment, BUT the 6377 comes with the belt attachment and friction retention screw. Both the 6377/78's lack the top rotating strap, and or open topped, relying on the ALS and retention screw

All the modern safariland holsters are VERY modular with components. Belt attachments and such, 3 screws and your good to go however you want.

my 6378's I have for the Glock 17(used for 22,23, 26,27, and 1911 used for both 5" government and 4" kimber procarry and a Glock 29/30 used for those glocks. Holsters work perfectly.

I will Never go back to a serpa. Safarilands surpass BH Serpas in everyway including quality.

I have heard recently that some departments have been having trouble with the ALS holsters due to debris getting into the holster and getting trapped in the retention device so you can't get the gun out of the holster. The only way to remove it is to cut the holster away from the gun. Similar problems happen with the Blackhawk Serpa holsters.

Just FYI

According to the chart you are talking about 2 different holsters.

Thank you both for your replies. I've heard of the mechanism jamming on the SERPA, but I hadn't thought about the ALS. I think that the ALS's position on the inside of the frame, as opposed to the outside like on the SERPA, would keep more junk outside the mechanism, but that's a guess.

I have examples of both already, and I do think the Sarfariland has better quality to go along with it's slightly higher price.

It's nice to have such well-written responses in the middle of the night. Must be a Daylight Savings Time thing!

Wake County- yeah- I saw that too. That's what got me asking. I think I'll get the G34 version and see if it will simply seat the G17 off the trigger guard and run below the barrel or not. Either way, I'll get a chance to try both, as opposed to getting the G17 version and knowing it won't work with the 34.

Tough problems to have, eh?

Good morning,

I wanted to post a reply in case anyone else ended up having the same questions I did-

I just spent a couple of days at an outdoor range class using the Safariland ALS 6377 for the Glock 17. (It actually says "Glock 4.5" on the packaging.) I carried a G19 in it the first day and a G34 the second day. As suspected, both guns fit the G17 holster and drew the same, except the barrel stuck out slightly on the G34.

One item of note- I drew once and found that the extended magazine release on the G34 MIGHT have been activated on the draw. Looking at the holster, I'm not sure this is possible and I might not have seated it properly when I loaded it. I have a G34 specific 6377 on order and I'll look to see if the cutout for the release is larger on that model. I'm not saying that the holster was the problem, but I wanted to pass it along.

Otherwise, I really like the ALS and am going to replace my SERPAs with it. My range time did NOT involve a lot of ground work, so I can't speak to the dirty mechanism issue. I did find that the draw was smooth and instinctive, especially if you are used to a thumb break holster.
