I finally got to hold one today.

Now, overall I prefer S&W to Glock - I have 4 Shield Plus models. I've previously had 4-5 regular Shields and a couple of other Shield Pluses. I love the platform.

So, You'd think I'd go for the Bodyguard 2.

Well, honestly - I like my Glock 42 better. I have an LCP and a Glock 42. To me, the Bodyguard doesn't replace either of them. The LCP is still smaller than the Bodyguard. So, it doesn't replace the LCP... And, with my +2 mag extension on the G42, the difference in round count to the 12 round mag isn't that great.

I also like the feel of the G42 more. And, I actually like the G42 sights more. I hate Glock factory sights on every Glock except a G42. But on a G42, they just work. That bright white front dot and the white rear bracket just works... Super easy to pick up, even in lower lighting settings...

I have a Shield Plus with a factory night sight similar to the front sight on the Bodyguard 2. Yes, it is an orange circle, but it is a little small. I am going to be changing to trijicon sights on that Shield Plus soon. I like their larger orange circle (around the tritium) more.

As the size difference between the G42 and Bodyguard 2.0 is close enough - I like the slightly longer sight radius on the G42.

The Bodyguard also seems TOO light to me. I don't know... When I hold it, I'm just not impressed.

Also - while this may turn out to be wrong info - on the S&W website today - it was stated that it was just discovered that the rear sight must be removed on the Bodyguard 2.0 just to remove the striker. That's a huge turn off. Someone claimed to have called S&W themselves and confirmed this information.

On the Shield models, the rear sight must be removed to take out the safety plunger/firing pin stop. But at least the rest of the internal parts can come out without doing that. If true - this fact about the Bodyguard just wouldn't work for me. But even if not true, I'm sticking with what I know works for me - the G42.

I have 1400 rounds thru my G42, and I just gave the internals a thorough cleaning. As it is a Glock, it was super simple.

It took me a year to recover from a surgery I had last year - and during that time, the G42 was the only gun I could carry. I am finally back to slightly bigger carry guns. But, the G42 has grown on me...

Thanks for your perspective, @ShipWreck

It's a nice counterpoint to the mostly glowing praise of the YouTubers.

While I've been considering my own level of interest, I had a similar thought about my Bodyguard 1.0 that you had about your LCP.

I doubt it would be completely replaced. And I'm already familiar with it, have it set up the way I like (night sights, MagGuts springs, etc), and can put rounds on target at 25y.
More practice with what I have is both cheaper and more practical that buying, vetting, and rotating in a new gun.

The bodyguard 2.0 uses the same desantis holster as the LCP Max...

I picked one up from my LGR a few weeks ago and I shot it this past Wednesday. I recently had to downsize and sell all my 9mm guns because of nerve damage in my Fingers & Hand, so I switched to the 22LR Guns which worked for me But I noticed this gun on YouTube and I decided to give it a try. Well, I was very happy with everything about this .380 at my first range experience! recoil great, accuracy great, but loading mags or racking the slide, not so great! Purchased a UpLULA Auto Loader to solve this problem! I am confident with this .380 and I carry it in a front pocket holser, so now has replaced my 22LR as my EDC! At my age (80) this gun serves my needs for self protection!

My LCP Max hasn't replaced my no-laser M&P BG for pocket carry and the BG 2.0 may not either, but I still want one. I'm almost certain I'll like it better than my LCP Max.

They are out of stock everywhere locally. At Academy they're even out of stock for having one shipped to a store. I should have done that while it was available; with my Academy card discount it would cost $380. But I'm not impatient although I would like to get one.

Today I tested out my BG 2.0 in a DeSantis pocket holster and it worked just fine. I was wearing some old 5.11 Tactical pants that I use for outdoor projects and painting (yuck). Today I was painting, so I compared my LCP Gen 2 SS in that same holster, and I have to say they carried about the same way around the house.

I held them up, side-by-side, and they looked similar, although the BG was a bit thicker (to be expected). On my digital kitchen scale, the LCP weighed 13-3/8 ounces and the BG was 15-7/8 ounces. Both were fully loaded, 8 rounds for the LCP and 11 rounds for the BG.

For now, I'll hang on to the LCP, but if I feel like my printing isn't too bad with the BG, I might sell the remaining LCP and get another BG when prices come down. That would simplify my life with one less platform and magazine selection, etc. We'll also see how the BG performs in BUG matches. If it proves reliable and I'm more accurate with it compared to the LCP - which I am already - then I'm leaning towards a pair of BGs.

LGS has their original BG2 from over a week ago as of yesterday. I remain unmoved by the YT hype machines and a hands-on experience.
I don't blame you. It's just another 380 acp. Nothing special or groundbreaking about it. I feel the same way when Glock introduces a new generation. Everyone goes ape ish, their a ton of hype, and early adopters act like it's above and beyond the prior Gens. It's all marketing and consumers being drawn to the newest shiny object.

Well, I will say that it was the 5th Gen Glocks that got me back into Glock. I like them more.

Of course, I've owned like 15 Glocks over the past 30 years. So, it's not like I ever stopped buying them :p

CHeck more stores. I bought mine from my LGS for $10 more than it would have been online after transfer fee

I’ll pick one up when S&W does what it always does and lowers the price to some ridiculous number after I’ve already bought it.
You and me both. LOL

Just looking at it, it won’t fit in the same kydex holster.
But it does fit the soft and the kydex holsters I had for the lcp max I just traded for.. 😎
