S&W 5906 Sights

I have a 5906 coming. There are minimal aftermarket sight options. There are Novak, Trijicon, XS that I can find. Trijicon looks to produce a rear sight that has a flat leading edge and one that has a slanted Novak style edge. (I don’t understand why this style was sought after years back.)

I really would like a tritium front with orange ring and either blacked out rear or plain rear with tritium- Ameriglo Spartan, HD style, etc. I don’t think that option exists for the 5900 series pistols. If someone knows something I don’t, please let me know. Looks like the closest I could get to that set up is a white front with plain Novak rear.

Because the 'sweeping' rack to the rear that was taught to clear a malfunction shreds your hand with square-fronted sights, and the Novak doesn't collect DNA when doing it.

Still my favorite sight. I'm *far* more likely to clear a malf than have to rack my gun on my belt or holster (and learned how to do that without using a sight, anyway.) There's a long tradition of 'melted' guns for just this reason.

Depends on the individual pistol; muzzle, ejector port, safety can all work.

Truth is, though, a one-handed rack is about 1,000 x less likely than a malf clearing, and a slide that isn't sharp lets you do that faster and more often than with sharp edges and protrusions.

I disagree. You can do both more easily with a rear sight that has a flat leading edge. Right now my support arm is out of commission so I have no choice but to use only one hand to manipulate whatever pistol I’m carrying.
