Roundtable: FBI Glock 19M

Hello All,

I’ve recently spent some time at the range with a friend’s FBI model Glock 19M. I just registered to share some information (and hopefully learn some as well). I’ve been lurking the boards and hopefully won’t repeat too much from previous 19M posts.

The 19M was the Gen 5 .…before there was a Gen 5. Per the FBI’s RFP for a new service weapon 10 years ago, Glock came up with the 19M just prior to the creation of the Gen 5, which received a number of 19M features.

The way a very few of these true FBI-used 19M models eventually made it to the public was that some were returned to Glock by the FBI, rebuilt (to varying degrees) and then resold to the public as new, in very limited quantities. There are varying degrees of being the “most legit” actual FBI-used 19M (see: Lipsey’s “fake” 19Ms).

So given that……It might be fair to say (at least from behind a keyboard) that confusion seems to have ruled the process of rebuilding FBI G19M’s at Glock USA. Mismatching the original blue label cases/SKUs to different rebuilt pistols, etc. I visualize an almost insurmountable stack of cases piled up to the roof as the gunsmith diligently works long into the night to meet an unreasonable deadline.

Sometimes happy mistakes can come from such circumstances. For example: original nDLC FBI internals being left in a rebuilt and subsequently remarketed G19. Perhaps the "keep DLC internals" process was originally ok’d by Glock, or perhaps it was a Friday and Happy Hour was looming and it’d be quicker for the gunsmith to not swap out perfectly good DLC parts. Either way, all I know is that the first extremely rare batch aside, no other rebuilt 19M’s with full nDLC original FBI internals seem to have been released to or discovered by the public.

If a 19M Gen 5 MOS (most recent 19M version) does not have AT MINIMUM all the following items, it (IMO) has no chance of being an actual FBI-used 19M:

nDLC Slide with double serrations reading both: “19M” & “Made in USA”
“Glock USA” on both sides of grip
Ameriglo Rounded sights, not squared
Ambi nDLC Slide Releases
Extended/rounded Mag release
Flared Mag Well , with “Moon scoop” cutout
nDLC internals (rarest of the rare actual FBI-used units)
Original FBI nDLC internals are numbered 33588 (Non-nDLC internals are numbered 39701)

The following 19M SKU notes are stolen from Glocollector and modified in my own words:

"The main internal difference that makes the Ms better is that original FBI contract spec guns come with the nDLC-coated internals. Historically, these guns with the nDLC internals have very rarely been released to the general public.

I've composed a list (attached below) of the M model SKUs that, so far, have been verified to contain the nDLC internals:

PM195F30A (verified)
PM195F7A2 (verified)
UM195F33A (verified)
UM195F32A (verified)

UM195F73A (claimed)

UM195F33AMOS (verified)
UMA195SK39MOS (debated)

UM195F30AD (verified-some)"
-----------------------------------------------------

The 19M I shot:

AHAA- serial #, UMA195SK39MOS SKU on blue label case, 39701 stamped commercial trigger arm, but with a black nDLC connector (??!!)
3x 15 rd mags
Sealed MOS 4-plate kit & tools
Sealed Owner’s Manual
Cleaning tools
Backstraps
Lock

So, in this instance, the UMA195SK39MOS unit did not have FULL nDLC internals; instead, it is the only case I’ve seen of an legit FBI 19M rebuild with mismatched internals....commercial non-DLC trigger arm from the Glock factory rebuild as expected…… but the black original FBI DLC connector appears to have been left in. I’ll ask the owner and see if hopefully they will provide a few more revealing

I honestly don't get all the hoopla about the 19M from a shooting perspective. I checked out the neighbor's 19M (he is an FBI agent) and it was a fine gun, but not heaps and bounds better than my 19 Gen 5 that I carry. I think all the extra details are a neat addition, but don't turn it into something substantially more than a regular 19.

I guess it is cool from a collector's perspective.

Just thinking this through a bit...Springfield Armory has the Mil-Spec, Loaded Model, and TRP to name a few. People will pay more for a similar gun with extra features. I can see where Glock would be able to capitalize on this as well. I don't the added features with make the owner a better shooter, but might enjoy the option of factory upgrades.

I am good with a standard Glock, but I bet these would sell if offered.

I agree that it might be a smart move for Glock. There is certainly enough money spent on aftermarket Glock parts and upgrades. They could manufacture different lines and tap into that market. Doing that and still keeping their guns affordable would be smart from a marketing standpoint. I think they did some good changes with the gen 5. Who knows what the gen 6 may bring.
