Stopped at the lgs where I bought my 9mm RIA 1911 to see about getting adjustable sights. He told me the factory will not sell him sights, I should contact them directly.
Any of you used this factory service. Were you satisfied with the results? I also would like a fiber optic front sight.

I got an estimate from RIA for sights (front/rear) fitting, also zeroing and trigger work plus re work of the feed ramp.
$250-including shipping both ways.
fyi several years ago I sent my Colt 1911 nrm to the factory for adjustable sight install. I don't recall what the cost was, but the sights lasted all of about 500 rounds before the windage screw flew off, never to be seen again. Eventually had to have that set of sights replaced with another.
Any of you who have had work done on a 9mm 1911- Does $250 sound in line to you?

That sounds a little high considering they are providing their own sights. I have a local gunsmith who would probably install the sights, zero them, and do the feed ramp work for less than 100 dollars and then whatever the sights cost.

I'd suggest you find a good local gunsmith.

I am going to take my RIA to my lgs and have him send it for sight install. Before I do that though, think I will see what kind of trade I can get for this pistol as is on something with adjustable sights. Maybe a Glock 34?

I am on my 2nd set of adjustable sights for my Colt 1911. They are Bomar and have been flawless. The Front site on the other hand has been an issue, trying to move out of the dovetail. I finally solved that with lock tite. The front site was an issue before the adjustable's were installed. Personally I do not like fixed sights on anything. Don't like the idea of having to "hold over" to compensate for ones not set up for me.

Jammer, I am a reloader. I load different weights of bullets and different types. I shoot more cast lead bullets then anything else, but also load jacketed and occasionally plated. Powder charges vary as well. This is a range gun. If it's not reliable, it's not that big of a deal.

I have known my lgs owner for many years. He has asked RIA for sights in the past so he can install them. RIA told him the warranty would be voided if he did the work. He suggested I contact RIA directly, which I did. They have already been sent off to RIA in Nv. When they return I will report back on my findings so others will know.

Depending on your slide that might not be a bad price, if they're having to redo cuts.
If they're not recutting just filing to fit it's a bit steep.
I'd check local smiths for LPA or Bomar cuts and go aftermarket, I like options, and I'm not real worried about warranty on the slide. When I had my GI type slide milled for Novaks front and rear the machine work ran $80.

I have a RI in 10mm, I really enjoy the adjustable sights and fiber optic front, especially when shooting from sunshine into dark shadows. I find the adjustable sights very worthwhile...and I also handload. :)

OP, does your Rock have the front strap striations and Operator II like grips?

For sights, if your current slides are drifted in, any good gunsmith could mill it to fit an aftermarket.

For other parts, a friend bought an RIA in 38 Super with the intent to build it out. Couldn't get aftermarket or RIA parts to fit. He finally gave up. But as I said, a smith could mill out the cutout to get an aftermarket set of sights to fit.

I went to an indoor range this Wednesday with my son, and shot the RIA with the factory installed adjustable sights, trigger job and fiber optic front sight.
Since my son was with me and we shared a lane, we shot at the same target so I have no groups to report. I do not normally shoot at indoor ranges.
The factory polished the feed ramp, and in my limited shooting this week (100 rounds) I have no hiccups to report. The trigger pull did seem lighter.
I hope to get out to my usual outdoor range this Saturday, and will try to have group sizes and overall impressions to relay.

I was pleased with the performance of the new adjustable sights. Much easier to hit what I was aiming at, the front red fiber optic really showed up in the snow, even though it was very overcast. I also worked the plate rack and improved my time and number of hits. Time will tell if the sights remain in place (I have had issues with the adjustable sights on a Colt 1911 that were installed by the Colt factory after my purchase. The movement of the heavy slide with dovetailed sights means they must fit very snugly in order not to move out of position.
BTW, ammo was mag tech 115 grain round nose.
