Looking for a range gun and thinking that the Glock 48 fits the “bill.” Its ten round magazine holds plenty for range work (heck, more than your standard 1911 45) and it’s longer slide and barrel would be fine for plinking fun. I had both the Glock 17 and 19 in the past and found that, in my opinion, you’re really wasting ammo beyond 10 rds for general range work..as service firearms they’re some of the best.

I also intend to add a Hogue Handall grip to increase the Glock’s 48 versatility. Without the Hogue, the 48 could be considered with its “slimline” configuration as a “9mm 1911.”

I’ve been eying one at the LGS, feels and points nicely also.

...how do you feel about the Glock 48 for a range firearm?

The 48 does what the 19 does, but with a slimmer profile that is more comfortable and suited for carry. I have both a 43X and a pair of 48's, but also prefer the 43X over the 48 for carry.

That still doesn't mean for whatever reason you can't use it as a range gun, probably more so over the 43X with it's longer slide and sight radius, but I would get another 17 if you want a designated range Glock.

I have a G48 and it doesn't do well as a range gun for me. I have long hands so the grip is a little small. It is my CC gun, though.

I've relegated the G48 to conceal carry alone.

I have a new G17 I now use for duty purposes. It's also my range gun now. The grip is perfect.

‘Range’, a place to practice? If so, what are you going to practice? Defensive shooting; bullseye shooting; draw from holster’; 50/25 yds steel? Do you load your own? Need adjustable sights? I shoot my 43/43x often at the range for much of the above (not so much bullseye) but have better results and more enjoyment at 20 yds + with a longer sight radius and better trigger. A 6’‘ smith w revolver, sig 226, 1911 (i have always wanted a 34). I have never fired a 48, but am a fan of the 43 and 43x, one or the other usually EDC. they suit their EDC purpose and I shoot them at the range in defensive shooting drills because I carry them. Can you find a friend who will let you shoot the 48?

Now if you mean a gun to go to the range with for "plinking" sure you could use the 48 for that. if you mean a "target" gun its not that. I love the 43X and 48 IMO they are Glocks 2 best guns. I cant stand shooting the double stacks for the most part as they fit my hands poorly and if I had a a choice id pick just about anything else to shoot but a double stack Glock .

That said I prefer the single stacks as my SD/CC guns I carry I personally have the 43X but I looked at the 48 also and love them both. And sure if youre not worried about the CC barrel length get the 48.

Suggest you evaluate your Life Style.
Having Fun might take a lower priority than Home Defense or the Ability to Defend Home.

I see too much money spent on guns, not enough on Practice with Carry loads. Suggest stop the Gun Rich ammo Poor philosophy.

I don't limit it to a range gun.... I now have "Three guns" I rotate carry with after all these years... Springfield XDs 45acp. Glock 48. Springfield Hellcat 15 rd factory mag.

G48 is an all around excellent shooter. I have two, and one 43x. Not real fond 'yet' of the 43x, but love the 48 for EDC and play time/range time/training time...

I have nothing against the Hellcat. Never shot one. The Glock 48 is the "apple of my eye". With Shield magazines, I have sixteen rounds in the gun and fifteen more, in a reload.

The single stack Glocks fit me better than the Glock double stacks. The Hellcat's grip looks like it may be between the Glock single and double stack frames?

The 48 is fine for range use. If you were going to do a lot of rapid fire stuff, I'd rather have a 17 or a 19, preferably the 17. The little extra wideness of the grip of the 17/19 is more comfortable on the strong hand. Bad thing is you need a little Donald Trump lotto to afford a lot of rapid firing.

I have a 43X with a Hogue grip that is an excellent carry gun. Recently took it on trip to West Palm Beach.

If I had the option...I would have gone with the 48.

I am on a single stack 9mm phase at the moment and just picked up a 2009 Sig Sauer P225.

I think that is the one! The 43X might be going to my daughter in a few years.

I use both my G17 Gen 4 and my G48 for the range. For Me - the only drill where the clear advantage goes to the G17 is one hand (strong and weak) multiple shots - multiple targets. Other wise, it is a push out to ~20 yards. However, the G48 is excellent for the reason I bought it - EDC.

Little known fact...

You can load only 10 (or even fewer) rounds into a 15 or 17 round magazine if you prefer. What, BTW, is "general range work"?

Irrelevant analogy. The OP compared the slimness of the Glock 48 to a 9mm 1911. That's an invalid comparison.
A 1911 with standard grips is about 1.2" thick... At the centerline. 0.76" at the grip panels' edges.

A double-stack Glock is about 1.2" thick edge to edge.

The OP did indeed compare a 48 to a 1911, but you specified "double stack Glock"...

I stand by the 2"x4" comparison... 😁

The grip frame on the G48, is thicker, and has more "Meat" on it, and does NOT conceal as easy as the Hellcat. I carry OWB, and i print VERY Bad, with the 43x/48, not hardly a drop with the Hellcat. I don't care really, and do not worry about printing much, unless trying to really be invisible somewhere... I carry the 48, Mex carry, back of belt with no holster a lot, as I did all the years of 1911 carry. I like it, I am fast with that type carry and comfortable and NO print. But, nothing in the pipe on this carry "with a Glock.' like my backside to much ! ha.

Hellcat feels really good in 'my' hand, but so does the G48. I have large hands and G48 works great. Not as thick and blocky as the G19, and not as 'Baseball bat handle thin," as the Hellcat. Excellent Gun, the G48. Highly recommend it if your a " 9mm Guy.."

I still pack 45acp XDs mostly, cause I ain't a 9mm guy... But next is G48, next Hellcat, and all the other boys in the safe get shot as I can. ha. Don't be afraid to get the G48. Btw.. I run Shield Arms 15 rd mags in the 48's... Flawless, with their steel catch. I helped in the developement of their steel catch, and I am now doing "Another T&E " for Shield Arms for another product for glock. Can't comment yet though... ;)
