Finally got my PWS Diablo (Mod 1 version) out to the range today..........

I can honestly say, that when PWS set out to build this as a 7.5" from the ground up, they did an amazing job.

Adjustable gas settings, keymod rail, easy access to the gas adjustment knob.....just an overall good, thought out gun.

I didn't clean it before I ran it, and I ran 200+ rounds of varying .223 and 5.56 spec ammunition, to include Wolf, and Brown Bear.

It did not choke a single time; usually 7.5" ARs have reliability issues - this one kept chugging along, say "give me more".

Optic was zeroed, and then I zeroed the HK diopter sights.

Observation about the HK sights - target sights, they are not.

The front post is wide, and big. These things were made to target human beings, and it shows. They're fast on target, and once adjusted, they're rock solid.

The Aimpoint PRO needs no introduction - boring reliability, and such.

The real impressive thing here, is the PWS "Triad" flash hider that comes on the MK107 Mod 1 from the factory.

It was very good at concealing muzzle flash, even with the crappy ammo. There were times where the muzzle flash was noticeable, but the Triad did a great job at keeping it down.....and it directed the gasses away from the front of my shiny new Surefire M300B Scout that literally arrived in the mail today.

Cleaning was ridiculously easy, and wasn't very dirty at all- the long stroke piston system does a great job, and keeps everything cool, and clean......I am a die-hard LWRC guy, but can honestly say, that PWS hit it out of the part with the new Mod 1 series.

I hope to put this thru the paces more in the coming weeks; I still have an IWI Tavor to shoot, and zero in.

I'm also in the process of finally getting a rifle suppressor, and going with the route I went with my pistol suppressors, Silencerco seems to be the ticket with their Saker 7.62........the extra volume in the 7.62 can should mitigate the bigger diameter, and is a good trade off to be able to shoot 7.62 in the future.

Just a few thoughts, and observations from my range trip today.......

Not that it matters a great deal,......but it is a 7.75" upper.

I love the way it looks just wondering what kind of velocity you get from a 7.5" barrel ?
Depends on the particular ammo, but quality 55gr ammo will yield a velocity just over 2200 FSP.

I generally prefer the DI uppers as I have spare parts.
However, I wanted a SHORT pistol. Many of the sub 10.5" uppers are very ammo sensitive. I was extremely impressed with the PWS.....has not short stroked once to date.

It looks like a quality piece, but I can't conceive of a barrel so short that any ammo leaving it is already moving at a velocity below the fragmentation threshold.

For me, 14.5" is the bare minimum, and that length only allows for reliable fragmentation/expansion out to about 100-125 yards or so.

Can not speak for AI, but for me, it is simply a range blaster!
I could care less about it not achieving fragmentation velocity.

11.5" barrels shooting XM193 will fragment consistently out to about 40 yards (any foreseeable self defense distance), 10.5/10.3" you will get maybe 15 yards where it will fragment consistently.... Anything under 11.5" you need to carefully select your ammo, Black Hills 50gr. TSX will expand well out of an 8" barrel out to about 80 yards, it's also barrier blind. So you can make a super short PDW style AR work for you as a defensive gun effectively.
