Optics ready handguns

I have been considering purchasing an Optics ready gun for range use. I watched a video on the Springfield Armory XDM OSP with a 4.5 inch barrel.
Anyone own or shot one of these?
Opinions?
If I buy one I will wait to save a little more dough to purchase the optic. Suggestions on optics also?

The FNX45 Tactical with a Vortex Viper has been a nice performing duo I've been happy with.

I don't own one but the Sig P320 RX series has me interested.

Pluses and minuses of those sorts of reflex red dot optics (if that is what they are called, versus a laser?
I have Trijicon optics on my FNX-T and my G26. One of the main advantages of these over lasers is battery life. I can leave my Trijicon on all the time, and the batteries go forever. I had a lasermax on my G26 and have a Surefire X400 Laser/Light on the FNX-T along with the Trijicon. The lasers are great for training as you can see exactly what is happening as you squeeze the trigger. I'm sure there are tactical advantages to not having to align sights for every shot, with the trade-off being you have to turn on the laser when you want to use it. Not as big a deal with Crimson Trace, as they have grip switches.

In any case, the last time I spoke about laser's in the optics forum the (Di**kW*d) rep from lasermax misinterpreted what I said and jumped all over me without giving me the benefit of clarification or reading my other pro laser comments.
So if you go with a laser, go with Crimson Trace :)

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I use a tube red dot on a couple handguns for hunting and target, but have only shot the tombstone shaped exposed reflex/holographic occassionally on someone else's target gun at the range.

I'm soon getting a crimson trace grip laser sight for one of my j frames, to test before using on my carry j. My main reason for a laser over the tube red dot or the tombstone shaped sights is to just reduce bulk on a handgun, while having the advantage of a single aiming point :)

With the OP, about the Springfield Armory XDM OSP, my initial reaction/concern is how bulky and fragile they might be if ever used for a carry gun. But maybe they are successfuly carried and don't add much bulk in actual real world use, and maybe are study enough. Dunno. Thus my question :)

A 3mm (example) laser is 3mm at 7 yards and 70. It becomes increasingly difficult to see with distance. A 2moa dot is laid on top of your target and takes up the same field of view, no matter where you're looking. Yes, it obscures more of your target, but there are ways around that, and it not actually a relevant amount at pistol distances anyway.

I run optics on 9 pistols. The FN tactical is a great platform with sights etc ready to go. Glock mos doesn't come with the tall sights so that's an additional cost if you want to cowitness and they like the fnx require really tall sights.

Certain aftermarket slides cut the spot for an rmr really low and allow you to cowitness with a .300 tall sight vs .385+ for the mos.

It certainly looks too large for a carry gun. I have others for that. I had a chance to shoot a full on race gun with optics a few years ago. I was amazed at the tight group I shot at 20 yards. Thanks for your insight.

I just ordered this one. I was thinking about a P320 anyway and this combo with a sale price helped push the decision. I should have it next week. I'll report on it when I have it.

I just mounted a Trijicon RMR to my G17 (not a OEM slide, a ZEV cut for RMR). My RMR is fiber optic and tritium so no battery issues. I plan on using it in competition but if the combo works out well enough (there are some issues when shooting from shadow/dark into bright light, issues that don't occur with the LED version) then I might consider it for work. I have a 9moa green dot and once I got it dialed in, plate racks seemed a little quicker.
