The last Glock I purchased was a new G19.5 about three years ago. I’m considering a Glock 47. Would appreciate comments and suggestions from those of you who have a G47. Thanks!

Just picked one up on Blue Label purchase. I've added a Holosun SCS optic, a Glock Performance Trigger and will be adding a Glock Mag Well. I intend this pistol to be a competition gun for GSSF matches and likely IDPA/USPSA matches. One driver of my decision was my happiness with my G45 which I carry as a successor to my G19.3. I used to carry Springfield XDs but have come to prefer the lower bore axis and lack of a grip safety on my Glocks.

Since I am a Certified Glock Armorer, I can competently inspect and maintain my Glocks for both carry and competition and have factory access to OEM replacement parts as needed.

I have shot the 47 along side the 17 and 45. In all cases I couldn’t tell the difference in recoil impulse or recovery time from shot to shot. Shot at 10/15/20 yards, just five round groups as fast as you can bring your sights back on target. For giggles, brought out my 26 from my pocket holster and shot the same as the full size guns. It’s a Glock, it shoot like other duty sized 9mm Glocks. To me, it’s nothing special. My G17 and G45 have nothing to fear.

IIRC, the G47 is an answer to a logistics problem for a large agency with multiple size 9mm Glocks. It take a lot of the parts from the G19.5 for the same large agency, so easier and cheaper when talking thousands of weapons to maintain and service. It’s a good pistol! Lot of VERY GOOD shooters praise it and they say it does take fractions of seconds off their splits and over all time. And most have compared the very soft recoil impulse to that if the G34. I do know that from a personal friend that works for the large agency that asked for them that they love them and they run great. Dust in the magazines is about their only complaint, cause they are on ATVs and dusty roads most of the time.

So as someone that has ran Glocks all of his career, rode in the short bus of armorers as a Glock armor for his department, and is only providing for his own Glocks now I don’t see the draw. I do not like the looks of the G47 but I do not like the looks of the G48 or G34/35 either. That dust cover handing out from the frame just doesn’t look right to me. Others love that look. It since I don’t need or carry a duty sized 9mm Glocks, just the sub compact G26, I won’t be getting one. I would rather have the G26 with a rail that the large agency had done for them.

I‘m leaning how to shoot a dot. I put a rmr on a G17MOS but didn’t like how high it sat using the plate. I decided to trade a Gen4 G17MOS for a G47. I installed a Holsun SCS on the G47 and i like how low the rmr sits on the gun. I put steel Glock sights on the gun and it cowitnesses with the dot. I have a Gen5 G19 also so I can swap slides between the G47 and G19 and have a G45 if I want the larger capacity frame without the rmr. Still a work In progress but for all practical purposes the G47 and Gen5 G17 would be difficult to tell apart by shooting. The G47 has so far, had the typical Glock reliability and the ability to swap slides and the MOS feature gives it additional utility.

I found a 47 MOS slide cheap and bought it to pair with my 45 and 19.

Super redundant, but it does shoot very soft. Swapping all of the slides around to different guns satisfies my adult lego fetish and gives me lots of autistic options.

I have also heard that Glock will only be selling the MOS in the 47 and not the 17. For those who want the longer barreled option with the MOS milling, it might be the only way to go.

Having said that, I don't know if I would buy a 47 over a 45.

Slide length the same as a 17, barrel length same as a 17, grip length the same as a 17. Why not just get the 5th gen 17MOS? Oh, that’s right….

I bought a 47 because, well, just because it was sitting used in the case at a local shop and it was clean and cheap enough that it beat the blue label price. I like the feel of the full-size grip, the 19x and 45MOS get carried and shot the most, but I’m going to give the 47 a try with a Holosun EPS and see if I want to make it my duty gun. If it doesn’t shoot noticeably better, I have a guy lined up to trade me a 45MOS.

I had one, I only bought it because I was wanting a G17.5 MOS and wouldn't you know, Glock stopped making those. It's basically a longslide G45. The one I had shot well, really well actually. If you're looking for a G17.5 MOS you'll have to settle for a G47. I like the G45 better than the G19 but if I already had a G19 and was looking at another Glock, I'd look at the G34.5, at least you get more barrel as the G47 barrel is roughly .5" longer than a G19 barrel.

Back in to ask what the intended use is? Will you be adding a dot? Is your intent to replace the 19 as a carry gun or just to get a larger gun for some other purpose?
Buying the 47 would let you configure 4 different pistols between the 47 and the 19; you’d have a 17/47, a 19, a 19L and a 45 without having to have different recoil springs.

I can buy one more blue label gun before year end and have pretty much given up on a Gen 5 29/30.
Same here but was hoping for a G26 with a rail.

I already have 2 G45’s so wanted to try a full-size slide, though honestly would have been ok with another G45; my favorite Glock model so far.

Been reading so much on the G47 lately and shop had one so figured I might as well form my own opinion on it and picked it up.
Excited to try it out. Not that I’m expecting a huge difference between my G45 or even 17.3 in regards to recoil (though I MUCH prefer the Gen5 grip). But it’s a new pistol, and I’ll be shooting at the range, so I’m excited, lol.

A utility gun, no red dot. I have a G19.5 and the modularity interests me. Truth be known, I probably wouldn’t be swapping slides to receivers all that often. I can buy one more blue label gun before year end and have pretty much given up on a Gen 5 29/30.

Curious, if you ever got a G47?
I ended up getting a 47 this year. I really wanted a G17MOS, but found out Glock only sells the G17MOS to agencies now. So I got a 47MOS-5. This 47 came with the MOS RMR cut. Glock produces it with the RMR cut from their factory. I mounted a 507C. It came with Ameriglo suppressor height sights.

As far as how it shoots, like every full size Glock. I only have a couple hundred rounds through it.
I like it.

Just fyi, your blue label dealer may carry MOS versions with other than the standard MOS cut.
MOS - standard Glock MOS
MOS3 - Leupold delta point pro
MOS5 - Trijicon RMR
MOS6 - Holosun 509T
MOS7 - Aimpoint Acro

If you are a GSSF member you can buy a gen5 17 mos . Well you could at the end of July 2024 when I was looking . I didn’t buy it because it had night sights on it increasing the price a lot .

I went to my LGS that is a blue label dealer.
They told me Glock is only selling the G17.5MOS to LE agencies only now. Glock won’t sell to individuals even if they are Blue Label qualified. Not even active LEOs; agencies only.

For me the choice to buy a 47 was an easy one. I have always wanted a 17 but for some crazy reason I had never bought one. I had recently purchased a police trade in 45 non-MOS at a great price and liked shooting that configuration. However, I wanted an MOS version so I sold the 45 but rather than buying a 45 MOS I bought a 47 MOS.

Since I have a 19 Gen 5 MOS I can do a little swapping around and have a 45 if I should feel the need. So buying a 47 rather than a 17 allowed me to have a “17” but also have a 45 for whatever reason I might want one. I have to honestly say that since I bought the 47 I have been content to just shoot the 19 and 47 as they are without doing frame/slide swaps. Shooting those two along with my 34 Gen 5 and 41 Gen 4 gives me all of the variety I need. Although i still looked at a G32 with some degree of lust.

As one who drank the Sig 320 koolaid when they first came out, I have spent all of the time and energy I want to spend on “modularity”. I didn’t like shooting 320s I just played with them. I sold everything related to the 320 a couple of years ago and made my way back to Glocks as my striker fired option.

For me it is the 49 that makes no sense. “Creating” a 49 from my 19 and 47 one day left me wandering why this configuration would ever be interesting to me. I have never shot the 49 configuration so maybe I am missing something.

As always, to each his own.
