Shooters I am considering buying a Glock 31 Gen4 .357sig handgun for both home defense & ranbge shooting! I have experience in shooting most caliber handguns(45acp,40cal, 10mm, 9mm etc. The cost of sig ammo doesn't bother me. I need opinion on shooters that have either fired this gun or own on to kindly give me your thoughts on this guns :
(1) reliability
(2) recoil
(3) your thoughts on this gun

Thank-you for your attention!

My all time fave EDC for years was a S&W 66 snubbie in .357 because I just had confidence in that caliber's stopping power. Bought a Sig in .357 Sig when they came out. Love the caliber, but the Sig was just too heavy for EDC. Went back to my Glocks. You wouldn't have that problem with a Glock. As you know this caliber is a fast round, has a crack and sharp recoil when fired. But, certainly not excessive. If you don't mind the cost of ammo, go for it. But innovations in ammo have brought me back to having confidence in 9 mm's and ammo is cheap.

The Gen 4 31 seems to have ironed out most of the feeding issues. The recoil slight with a light lift.

The only issues seem to be ammo and bullet setback. Suggest very good hearing protection or double muff.

I have gifted the 31 and 33 to my sons and they are happy campers. Myself I prefer a 44 mag. when I want more.

Nothing wrong with the cartridge or the platforms, you will enjoy.

Home defence? Some call it deafening. Range: OK. Test before you buy.

I have had multiple 32s and a 33 but haven't had the opportunity to get a 31 yet. Very nice caliber and nice guns from my experience with the 32 and 33. I would like to get a 31.

Reliability: it’s a Glock and therefore reliable as a G17, G19 or G22.
Recoil: felt recoil is less than the .40 S&W. It shoots ‘flat’ and there is very little muzzle-flip. It has a louder report and more flash though.

Overall: I loved mine but traded it because I have a conversion barrel for my G23. The conversion barrel is better suited to my personal needs and whetI run out of ammunition, I’ll sell the barrel (I consolidated calibers in 2017)

I have a G32, and love it at the range and would happily carry it, but I have Shields in 9 & 45 that beckon whenever I gear up. At home, a G19 with light is my second choice after a 12 gauge with light- I just don’t see the need for all that extra noise and velocity at home. P.S. I definitely think you should go G32, unless you might end up with G31 & G33.

I’m in the middle of a FrakenGlock project, taking a spare G17 frame I had laying around and sending it off to do a grip chop to a G19 size. When it comes back, I’m going to put my G22 upper with a .357 Sig barrel on top. Essentially will be a G31 in a G32 frame size. Why? Because I think it will be the ultimate carry gun, with a longer sight radius than the G32, increased velocity and lower recoil. With the right ammo (Underwood Extreme Defender), you are approaching the vaunted 2200ft/sec mark. A portable rifle on your hip. [emoji95]

Regarding the original question, I find my stock G22 converted to shoot 357 Sig very easy to shoot. The noise is something you get used to after a few mags. The recoil feels like 45 acp to me, just a soft push back. Really like the recoil impulse of the round, much more than I was expecting.

I have a G22 with a 357 Sig conversion barrel. I also have a G23 with a 357 Sig barrel. I have a few rounds through the G23 (4” barrel). I found the recoil of the 357 Sig to be much greater than the 40 I’ve been issued, since 2008. From 2004-2008, I only had 40 S&W.

I haven’t had a chance to put the barrel in the full size G22, but I’m excited to. I got a threaded barrel, so it should be an absolute velocity monster.

The only 357 SIG dedicated gun I ever had was a Gen4 G31, I've had 357 SIG drop in barrels but the G31 was the only dedicated 357 SIG I had. It was a nice gun, recoil to me is a little less than .40 but it's a little louder than .40. To be honest, I like the 357 SIG but ammo options aren't that great, I mean they're not bad but to me the Gen4 G22 makes more sense. The reason is that .40 is more available and has better options for ammo choices and if you want to run 357 SIG, just buy a barrel for it and you have both. I've always thought the 155gr .40 performed very much the same as the 125gr 357, just that it pokes a bigger hole.

Wonderful cartridge that is extremely accurate, powerful, and dependable. I've had a 33 for over twenty years and it has been 100%. I always wanted a 31 and almost fell into one years ago when a guy I know needed money. But, I didn't have the heart to 'steal' it from him and insisted that he keep it.
