What do you think of the older lancer L5 mags?
I have not used them although I have some L5 AWM and really like them.
Would you buy the older mags or hold out and spend a little more and the the newer style?

I have both, and in my opinion, the new design is a major improvement in many areas. The wrap-around steel feed lip that also serves as the mag release engagement surface, the texture on the mag body to allow a more positive grip, and the sliding baseplate vs. 3-tab snap-latch disassembly are three items that come immediately to mind.

I wouldn't (and won't) throw away the older mags, but I think the new mags are definitely worth the extra few bucks per unit.

Are the Lancer mags "Euro" guns OK? They'd snap into SCAR, FN bullpup, Steyr AUG, etc.?

The L5AWM is compatible with modern weapon systems; M4/M16/AR, HK416, SCAR16, and the ARX160, to name a few, and available in 10, 20 and 30-round capacity with a translucent or opaque polymer body.
FS2000 needs the magazine modified slightly. Forums tailored to the particular platform usually have info on what mags will work and what if any mods would have to be done to the mags.

When a semi-auto malfunctions, the first thing you look at is the magazine. Quality mags are crucial to reliable operation. The AWM upgrades are what gave Lancer it’s reputation. I’ve seen so many issues with aftermarket mags, the only ones I’ll use are Pmags and AWM.
I’m not saying the old ones are unreliable but the changes were made for a reason. I would not let a few dollars per unit affect my decisions.
