finally picked up issue #1 and figured I would mention my thoughts of it. Well:

Just like recoil, the paper quality is way over the top for a magazine which is a welcomed change from the norm. The photos and general layout of the magazine is well thought out and pleasing to the eye. All that being said, they still offer sub 101 information which seems a waste on a magazine that is otherwise very well done. Its is not much better than a sales catalog to its particular subject matter. The best thing in this issue was a diagram of 3 different knots. I want to like this magazine just like I wanted to like recoil but 5 issues in, I was done. I will give this magazine a similar try out but so far I am not impressed with the content. Quality, layout, design, photography...yes, content no.

Happened by the magazine rack at WM and picked up a copy as well.

I have the same thoughts.

The best thing in the magazine to me are the gear recommendations, not because they're good, but because I haven't seen some of it before.

All of the articles are geared toward people who have never thought about S&P, much less started prepping.

Hope it gets better.

Well,, it IS their first issue after all gents.

They will balance between new and older preppers as they continue printing.

As far as recoil, I think there is again hope. Ian is running the show now and the last issue was very good. To someone who is new to tier 1 gear, it is heaven.

To someone who has and has used tier 1 gear it is very well done.

In a world of typical gun mags that are simply clones of each other and the like, it is nice to see someone actually cover high end gear and weapons without making me feel like I need a shower to wash all of the thinly veiled butt kissing to their advertisers.

Recoil does not do that, hopefully they find their groove and Ranger on.

You guys are a tough room.:tongueout:

+1

However, there were some interesting articles. You walk into X convenience store with $100 what do you buy?

I was a little disappointed in the fact no one in the firearm section at least mentioned an AK?

I agree, the paper and layout are top notch.

I also agree. I give them props - trying to start a new magazine in today's climate where magazines are dropping off left and right going strictly web based where I think this is ONLY a paper magazine takes balls (I get the angle though). I think I paid $8 or $9 which seems a bit expensive for a single copy (I haven't bought a magazine in years so I have no idea what the average price is now a days)

If you talk about prepping or even have a clue the magazine is very basic. However, for issue #1 it did hit a LOT of the highlights; which is my fear. For a how-to for the novice you could do a lot worse as a single source...will the magazine have legs and be able to keep an audience.

This said, I wonder if they are hiring?

Anyone know anything about the gas mask they highlighted?

I didn't know anyone actually bought magazines anymore. I have stacks of gun and survival magazines from the 80's and 90s, but I thought the internet pretty much killed them all. Probably haven't bought one in over a decade. Last time I looked I was shocked at the prices they charge.

yep, they still have magazine racks.... they are not extinct yet

Some of old timers like to hold paper in our hand. I'll have to check this out, but if it's like Recoil, most of the stuff in it will be out of my price range.

I picked it up the other day I thought it was a bit strange that I was buying a Magazine titled off grid at Walmart thought it was a pretty decent Magazine my wife loved it she isn't the most computer literate person she relies on me to do most of the research on the Internet regardless it's kind of nice to have a magazine in your hand even though most are biased and trying to sell you something

In its defense, I read on the internet that the concept is to start with articles geared toward someone who knows nothing about the subject matter and then subsequent issues will progress to very in depth articles. That being said, I may have judged it harshly.. but like I said, I will give it 5 issues or so. Then decide what I really think.
