As of Feb. 17, NYPD officers will no longer carry handwritten memo books or activity logs as part of their essential equipment. Instead, officers will use department issued I-phones to record information. Doing so will allow 'instant' access to an officer's notes before he returns to quarters.
The new system will also be able to more effectively track an officer during the day.
A late motor officer friend of mine retired from the force and had 30 or so years of memo books at home which provide evidence that he never had a motorcycle crash in over 400,000 miles.
