You could probably use a wooden dowel to take the plastic sights off. I use a Brownells punch with removable tips. You can get different sized tips in nylon, aluminum and brass.

I use a brass tip that is ground half way down so there is a large flat area to match the contact area of the base of the sights.
Edit: Remember to tap out left to right, in right to left, looking down from the slide cover plate.

A padded vice, punch of your choice and these directions are all you need to be successful. SJ 40
Nobody at my local Home Depot seems to know what a DelrinI have used in the past the wooden dowel, and then discovered Delrin punches at Brownells. then found out one can purchase a 3 foot section of Delrin rod at Home Depot much more cheaply and cut my own to length. SJ 40
I couldn't find Delrin rods on the Home Depot website; but I read on another forum that a nylon bolt would work, which Home Depot has in their stores.Nobody at my local Home Depot seems to know what a Delrin
rod is or where they would be in the store. I walked the whole
store and all I could find was the wooden dowels. Can anyone
please give me an idea what part of Home Depot they have
those Delrin rods as I'd like to buy a couple of them myself?
Thanks,

I started out using that type of punch from Brownells and they always worked fine for Glocks. I switched to the one I showed it post #2 when I had to remove some sights from a S&W and required a little more force. Here is a listing from Brownells for 5/16" diameter x 4" nylon punches that I have used prior to finding the Delrin rod at HD. unclebob, the rear sight tool arrived today and it was just what I needed. You are a life saver and I can never Thank you enough. I also appreciate the video you made as well. It's easier to see it done and do it than try to read about it and try to do the same thing. If you want PM your address and I will send you a Dawson rear sight installation punch that comes with the Dawson sights.
I have installed many Dawson adjustable sights without using a vice. Using their supplied installation tools. I also have a MGW Glock sight installation tool but unfortunately at least mine does not work on the Dawson adjustable sights. If you follow the Dawson video on installation it is no problem at all even without a vise. But you do have to do a little bit of filing on the sight.I ordered Dawson's adjustable rear sight and their fiber optic front. I think it was pretty cool that they supply you with a nice metal front sight tool and a metal punch with a nylon tip. Unfortunately i didn't have a proper way to secure the slide in my apartment so i just kept bouncing the punch off the oem rear sight. Had to take it to a smith to have it put on. I plan on investing in a sight pusher.
