I'm contemplating picking up one of these 3 brands and thought I'd seek GT's consensus on which they would choose and why.

I'm not an operator and don't plan on using it for 3 gun competitions or anything like that. I simply want a quality rifle to punch holes in paper with along with a slim possibility for HD usage. On average I plan on shooting roughly several thousand rounds per year.

On to the choices:

From Noveske I'm looking at a 16" basic light recce.

From DD I'm looking at the M4V3

And from Larue, I'm looking at the 16" 5.56 PredatAR

They are all similar in price.

The Noveske on namesake/reputation alone has me really interested. Although at $1500 it doesn't come with a free float rail like the others. Still I like the simple looks and ergonomics of basic hand guards so I guess it isn't really too big of a deal.

As far as the Larue, I think value wise it's hard to beat coming with features such as a Geissele trigger standard. It would end up costing more however due to the lack of standard sights. Throwing on a pair of Troy flip ups would raise the price another $200. It also seems to have the shortest barrel life of the 3 due to its lightweight stainless design.

And finally, the DD. I can find no faults in it in any way but for some reason, the Larue and Noveske draw me in more. I can't explain why.

Anyway if you were looking, which of these would you choose? :dunno:

All are good rifles and you can't really make a bad choice. I own two DD V3's and love them dearly(one lightweight and one regular). That said, for the money I think the Larue is the better value. The feature you are getting for the price is unreal. IMHO it's the best overall value on the market right now. It's where I would spend my money.

All 3 would be great choices IMO. I would go with the Noveske, but that's only because I own 2 of them myself. Recently, I "built" an AR for a buddy that was not familiar with AR's at all. He wanted something reliable, reasonably accurate, and not too expensive. We ended up with a Palmetto State Armory lower and LPK, Magpul UBR, and a Noveske basic carbine upper with a 14.5" barrel. I swapped out the handguards for Magpul midlength handguards, and here is what we ended up with:

I am by no means a benchrest shooter at all! We went to my range to teach him how to zero his irons, and I was blown away with the groups we were getting at 50 yards with iron sights. A few 5 shot groups all touching. Now I'm sure this is no big deal for someone accustomed to this type of shooting, but for me, with a mil spec trigger and iron sights, I was impressed!

No matter what rifle you go with, I'm positive you'll be very happy. Noveske is what I would go with if I had to pick.

Personally I would forego these 3 choices and go to something like BM, RRA, Stag, something in that price range for the shooting that you intend to do and use the savings to buy ammo or accessories if you need them. Any of them will do the job for you without getting into the cost of the 3 you mentioned.

Any of those 3 are good but I would also opt for the Noveske if you can swing it.

This makes a little more sense, since you stated that you plan on a basic plinking rifle.

All 3 good choices.

Noveske - best barrel of the bunch, but if you aren't handloading or shooting match ammo it doesn't help much. Their CL barrels are m249 stock that are profiled and cut to length (Centurion uses the same stock but has a different profile on theirs). I think their rifles are over hyped (as in nothing that others don't offer) but their barrels are awesome.

DD - Great company and great componets from top to bottom. You can also find them for less than their list (not so much for Noveske and LaRue).

LaRue - Pretty good offerings, but I don't like the rail they include.

If it were my money, I would build and get exactly what I wanted. With a build you can decide if you want a FSB or lo-pro, what rail and length, which barrel profile, muzzle device, etc. If you shop smartly, you usually end of less than buying a complete rifle.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. :wavey: I am going to take a few more days to decide. I honestly can't see any wrong choice.

I really enjoyed watching the DD torture test and read the corresponding thread over at M4carbine. The Aimpoint T1 really impressed me as well. I'm trying to decide between getting it or an Aimpoint Pro. I like the Pros larger 30mm objective and 2moa dot but am really drawn to the size and weight of the T1.

I'll offer a fourth brand for consideration - Spike's Tactical. That's if you are OK waiting 12 weeks for a rifle. BCM is another option generally held in high regard within the AR-15 circle.
It's funny you mentioned Spikes. I paid for a mid length a month ago and the wait is driving me crazy. I couldn't imagine what some of the Randall knife guys go through waiting years to get a knife.
Although I'm getting a bit worried as I've read that some people who have already waited 12 weeks are now being told that they have to wait another 12 weeks. That's 6 months! I'm patient, but that is beyond what I'm willing to wait.

As far as BCM goes, I would have gladly taken a look at them as well except for the fact that they are not even accepting orders at the moment and I want a complete rifle at the moment rather than piecing one together.

The PredatAR is a dedicated lightweight.

The Stealth upper and lower combined would make a better all-around rifle from LaRue, as would the OBR 5.56.

PM me for more info.

I feel your pain, I've been waiting on a 9mm billet stripped upper for about 3 months now.

I'm a big fan of the Noveske rifles, but my first choice would be the Knights Armament SR15

The Stealth upper and lower combined would make a better all-around rifle from LaRue, as would the OBR 5.56. For example, Mark LuRue recently decided to include the RISR when you buy an OBR with the Magpul stock. I bought one right after they came out many months ago, but LaRue still sent me a RISR for free last week.

PM me for more info.
I chose an OBR. Build quality is fantastic and LaRue has outstanding customer service.
