I purchased a new Bersa Thunder 380 for my wife for concealed carry. I thought I would do her a favor and take it to the range to start breaking it in...;-).

Well I put about 150 rounds through it. It seemed to function OK (used PMC Bronze 90 gr FMJ & PPU 94 grain FMJ), I had 2 FTE/FTF during that time. I loved the feel of the gun and thought the recoil would be very manageable for my wife. The groups were tight enough; the only thing that bugged me was it consistently shot low (2-3 inches below point of aim) from about 10-15 yards. Since this is for self defense, it is not a major issue, but still a concern.

Is this normal for this gun? Can it be corrected?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds fine at that distance with that sort of handgun.

If you really want to zero any handgun, you need to stick with the same bullet weight/velocity, carefully bench rest it (solid hold from a sandbag or other support) then determine in what direction the sights need to move to move the group center.

Adjustments to the rear sight move in the direction you want to move the group, adjustments to the front sight are opposite the direction you want to move the group.

So if you solidly bench it and your groups are still low, shortening the front sight will raise the point of impact (if there is not an adjustable rear sight for instance).

Personally I'd not bother due to the nature of handguns of that type.

Just to rule out shooter vs gun, have you had another experienced shooter fire it? I've done that with my wife and friends a few times. They've handed me guns that were inaccurate at first, that shot fine for me. Not saying anything about your shooting. Just something to rule out.

There are three ways sites can be set up :

Pumpkin on post
Top of site at intended POI
Middle of sight through POI, obscuring the target.

How does Bersa set their sites up?

It could be the Bersa is set up fine for the way Bersa intended, and you have to adjust to the sighting technique employed.

I know its probably a dead thread after all of this time but my bersa shoots low as well if you line up the top of the sites. If properly aligned youll notice the front dot is partially obstructed by the rear sight. When you fire this way the gun will shoot low. Lets face it its a 250 dollar gun. Its not a bad gun but they did make some compromises. I was going to file down the front sight as its obvious the front and rear sights werent designed as a pair. But i found if you ignore traditional sight alignment and just center the front dot in the rear square ignoring the rear dots all together youll be dead on. I really like the bersa but the sights are such a failure that it made me put it in the back of the safe. Dont hate it enough to sell, but between the cost of 380 ammo and its sight quirks it only comes out a few times a year.

I wish I could chime in on this but I have not shot mine yet. I bought it about 12 years ago, it is still BNIB.

BERSA MAKES AWESOME GUNS!!!
