I looked for another thread to tack this on to, but couldn't find anything current. I apologize for starting this new thread but think others might benefit from the information.
I finally broke down and got a TLR_7 sum for my 48 MOS. Obviously now with the light I needed (yet) another holster to accommodate the light. I thought that I could do without the holster and could just pop the light on and off when needed. In retrospect I don't think I'm up for doing that- at least frequently, especially now that I think I can carry the 48 comfortably with the light on it.
I've had some pretty good luck with inexpensive (super cheap) Kydex holsters. The IWB before the light was an Amberide and I've been pleased. But Amberide doesn't have models that accommodate lights so I found one that is similar in many ways except for the clips. It was also available in carbon fiber finish with no upcharge. Color me impressed. Fit of the weapon is very good and with adjustable tension it works well with good retention and the right amount of draw strength needed. I had ordered a claw for it, but I guess with the extra width there is no need. My 48 handle sits tight on my body and is easier to get on and off without a claw. I even tried it on the side outside the pants but under the belt (as another member suggested just a bit ago) and that works, but I'll have to use longer cover garments.
I suppose the more expensive holsters have something that this cheap holster doesn't, but I guess I'm not sophisticated enough to recognize any functional difference. My first kydex holster was a Tulster for my 43x that I paid $65 but we just didn't get along so it got returned.
