I have that TROY on my Colt. I prefer the Moe on my BCM. Unless you plan on hanging all kinds of stuff on your rail, a MOE or stock hg in my opinion is better. You can get rails to add on where you need on the MOE.
You need rail covers on the TROY or it eats your hands.
You can also use these mounts on MOE

So instead of spending $25 for the MOE, you spent $150 on a railed forend... just to mount a grip?:dunno:
I did this with my 1st Colt. Then I realized it was uncomfortable to hold and since I only wanted to hang (maybe) a light and VFG or AFG2, on my second rifle I went with a MOE.
I am thinking I am going to remove the TROY and sell it or add it to the other stuff in my case I will probly never use. The money I saved on the hand guard I spent on a leupold AR scope.

I would cancel that troy order.

Buy a MOE hand guard - $30
Buy a RVG - $20
Buy a VTac mount - $25
Buy a Streamlight ProTac2L - $40

Total - $115
You also forgot the MOE illumination kit, and buying a better light than the Streamlight.

Yes, I am a Surefire snob.

I have the same Troy item but wanted a bit more opinions to mount stuff that is why I didn't use the MOE I have.

IMHO if you just need to mount a RVG, the MOE is the way to go. Go to the Valley Forge or Oaks gunshow this weekend and pick them up at a pretty decent cost. Facejacket & Wooden Plank said it best in regards to cost..

The rails that bolt in through the cooling slots in the standard hanguards are easy to snap off if you put any real force on the VFG. The MOE is stronger, but I want metal if I'm going with a VFG. For a light, the MOE or even the standard handguard is fine.

Keep the rail. Ditch the plastic junk.

Now you can put a light, a sling and a VFG on it without having to molest a plastic handguard.

I'm not all that tough but I've been through several 2-3 day classes and many matches and training sessions without any squirrely rail covers.

Hahaha I agree with you 100%, the "molest a plastic handguard" part made me laugh.
