Any experience / opinions between these two semi-auto tactical 12 gauge shotguns for HD ? The Mossberg 940 gas system has been redesigned while the Remington V3 gas system appears pretty innovative .

Taurus makes decent revolvers...

Mossberg makes decent pumps...

The semi-autos from both...???

The V3 was derived from the VersaMax, which is the Argo system as used in the Benelli M4. I designed the Versamax Tactical for Remington, the new R dropped the 3.5" version and kept the 3", which is the V3. While it's the best design, the implementation, old Remington, was poor. The new R seems to have made great improvements.

For the hater that is going to throw the "Jerry Miculek" card, I've been squadded with Jerry several times when his Mossbergs crapped the bed, even cost him the match. He goes though several a year. But no chance you catch me being even slightly okay with a 940 for defense. As a bird gun with only 2 in the tube, it's okay. But it can't handle shell surge.

Only designs that release the shell from the mag tube on the trigger pull are acceptable for tactical/dense use. V3, Benelli, 1301s all do that.

I've posted on this several times over the years.

I have three 12 gauge shotguns I can use for defense. I have a 70’s era Remington 870 Wingmaster with a MagPul stock and forend with a tactical light and sling. I have a Sage modified Sportsman 12 with a pistol grip Choate stock I bought from my Agency when they sold them. I bought a MAC 1014 with the pistol grip polymer stock. My Remington Sportsman 12 has been very reliable but parts are getting to be an issue and the gun has sentimental value. I bought the MAC 1014 so I could save my Sportsman 12. So far I’ve been very satisfied with my MAC 1014. If I was looking for a serious defensive shotgun I think it is hard to beat the Benelli M4/1014. I’ve shot numerous other shotguns but I just like the features of the Benelli design.

MAC 1014

Sportsman 12 aka Remington 1100 modified by Sage for ISP.

Remington 870 Wingmaster from 1970 with MagPul furniture, side saddle and Streamlight PolyTac.

Does Remington still make the V3 Tactical version?

I can't find one anywhere.

Is remington in bizznizz again?

yeah don’t trust them, they haven’t put out a decent 870 in years I wouldn’t trust their “innovation”

I’m nobodies quality control department especially when funded by my own munny.

I had two 1100’s years ago that I trusted but the 1187 was trash.

I trust my mossberg 500 but when I was shopping for a semi the stoeger m3k won out and has been reliable.

if I was shopping today the beretta a300 would be at the top of my list.

Remington, version 4 has been making long guns for a few years now. The ammo went into the conglomerate, a different group. They dropped the handguns and a lot of the fluff. Only a few versions of rifles and shotguns. But, from what I am seeing, they are doing it right.

Their rifles are on a par with some of the best R700 footprint clones.

Their shotguns are better than Mossberg, Stevens for sure. I can't put them at the Beretta or Benelli level because they have not been out long enough to prove their track record for durability. But I'd not shy away from them if they have the feature set you want. It's really an entirely new company.

Remington version 3 had issues with cam pins and hammers on the VM and V3. Change them out with Benelli cam pins and hammers.

Version 4 of RemArms seems to be doing fine in that regard.

Waiting for the SBS Form 1 submission to be approved on our new 990 Aftershock, as we'll be running it along side our Remington TAC-13 SBS. I'll also be detailing the performances of their full-size versions for those still curious of these semi-auto boomsticks (V3 Tactical vs. 940 Pro Tactical)...
