Hi all, just ordered this model: 50403. MOSSBERG® PERSUADER 500® w/INSIGHT TACTICAL LIGHT FOREND

Image

•Pump-action
•Features lightweight & fully-integrated tactical forend light by Insight® - 125 Lumen CREE XPE LED, two-piece polymer housing, (2) pressure pads, On/Off/Strobe modes, Momentary/Constant settings, activation simple and one CR123A Lithium battery provides for 90 minutes of run time. A durable, black matte finish completes the integrated light forend design.

I should be getting it by the end of this week and need some input as to the type of shots best for HD. I wanted something that came stock with the light, however, weight needed to be a minumum and also length/ease of use. I was looking at a few with the Ghost ring sights etc. but this is the only model with the light. This will complement my Glock 19. All suggestions welcome.

Thanks:cool:

Federal Tactical #1 buck is arguably the best overall HD load on the market, but it can be a pain to get. The only website I know of that has it in stock right now is GT Distributors(see link), and they only sell ammo to law enforcement and military. It does pop up on other websites from time to time, though.

Outside of that, standard #1 loads and low-recoil 00 loads are also excellent choices. Grab a couple different brands to try, and actually shoot them from your shotgun. Find one that patterns the way you like (Some prefer wider patterns, other smaller - I go for the tightest patterning load I can get), and stock up.

The Federal Tactical #1 load from my 20" 590 makes one ragged hole (about the size of a golf ball) out to about 15 yards, and the entire shot load is roughly inside a dinner plate at 30 yards.

I believe the light is being sold separately, as well, if you didn't want to shell out for the Surefire.
The light is sold at some places for close to $300.00. Amazon has it for about $250. You'll have to install it, oh! it does not come with the metal part of the slide. You will have to get a replacement or risk damaging the original from trying to remove it from the forend. Anyway, Mossberg gives the warranty of 10 years. These are the reasons to get it with the gun. It is much more cost effective. My FFL Dealer advised me the same.

Thanks.

According to the Math, its better bought with the gun.

Some of us don't feel like buying a whole new gun just to get the light... :whistling:
My comment was just for a buyer who did not have one (Mossberg) already, and was considering getting one and adding a light after. Like me. You are not wrong, though. If I had a gun already, then my decision would have been to seek a fitting light. Although $300 seems excessive.

$300 is about what a Surefire dedicated LED fore-end goes for. For the money, I will take the Surefire every time.

Those models look nice. I have a railed forend on my mossberg and was thinking of getting one of these for $120 at MidayUSA

the only thing I don't really want do is get invested in lights that will require me to buy CR123 batteries. I would rather go with a railed forend and AA powered weaponlight.
There's a good reason why all the high end weapon lights use 123's - because AAs suck for high output lights.

123 batteries aren't that bad. Find your local Surefire dealer, you can usually get 12 packs for about $20-24 each. For a light you don't use a lot, that's enough to last you a long time. Heck, I can get a couple months of near daily use out of a pair of 123s in my Surefire E2DL.

I don't know about that so much. They are starting to make some really good LED lights that are high output and still work well on AA batts, like the newer Insight lights. Besides, you can now get lithium AA batts that work as well too. I just don't like the idea of having to hunt down another size of batteries.

AAs also seem to not handle recoil very well. It was an issue (along with heat) with the AA powered EO Tech optics.

Meanwhile, 123s are easy to find. 2 packs for about $5 at Lowes in a pinch, plus 2, 12, 24 and 72 packs at most any Surefire dealer, or online. There are off-brand 123s for dirt cheap, but I prefer the Surefire ones. Surefire even offers rechargable 123As now.

More than a year ago I bought a tactical light for my Glock 19. It was a the Suncoast Gun Show and I also bought a pack of 5 batteries for $7.00. To this day I have yet to change out the first battery from the light which is rated at 150 lumens. Oh, they are 123A size. Its a good thing to always have some extras on hand.

I had been to the Suncoast gun show last weekend where I first saw this light on a 590 20" Mossy, I fell for it instantly, but wanted the 18" barrel. I'll let you guys know more when I pick it up, hopefully, this friday.

It goes on like any stock right? I already took off my stock to add a railed stock. I had to get it off the tube thing. It wasn't that hard. Is that all this requires?
My impression is that you're correct. You have to remove the internal portion of the fore end that is attached to the action bars, but little else outside a field strip is needed.

One thing it appears had been addressed is that with the surefire forend, the light and the bayonet lug on the 590 tried to occupy the same space, which meant you had to machine off the lug for it to work. It doesn't look like it sticks out as far as the surefire light did. I don't drink the surefire coolaid so I never really worried about the problem. I am still leaning towards a railed forend and a weaponlight that I can change to whatever weapon I happen to be using, just because of the economy of it.
