As stated above, I have a Mossberg 500 which, so I have discovered from the serial number, is of a 1985 vintage. Now my gun club is planning to begin running practical shotgun comps and I know, from reading elsewhere, that Mossberg's are pretty good for this discipline... However, mine was bought pretty cheaply for around $200 but it came with two 28" barrels. As far as the law goes in GB you can't have barrels less than 24" and the overall length of the shotgun has to be no less 40".
I can, of course, cut one of the barrels down to 24" but would the gun be likely to be unwieldy for practical comps? I have to be honest and say I'm totally ignorant of this form of shooting so any advice is welcome. Also, being in GB, the only magazine extensions I can get are the 8 round ones. Would 8+1 be enough ammo to compete with?.
I believe they plan on having two forms of comps. One being for the young and fit who can run, crouch, lie down and get up quickly (unaided), and a second comp which would be for the wrinklies in the club - that means me, it would be knocking down numerous steel plates of different sizes at staggered distances.
What say you chaps??
