MecGar gonna make magazines for Glocks?

I read that on another site. Can anyone confirm this? If they were to make an extended mag for the G48 I would buy one in a heartbeat since that model fits me like a glove. The 10 round capacity has stopped me from buying more than once but I’m hoping this is true.

Just going on the pics because there is no real information past them, it appears they might have dimpled the mags instead of notched them for the mag release. It does say that you don't need to replace the mag catch, so that's pretty cool. I am unsure of just how they could have done that and still had them be reliable though. Time will tell. I would most definitely try them, as Mec-Gar mags are great.

I get that. I wonder what an aftermarket magazine has to offer that an oem mag doesn’t. Outside of the slim line pistols PSA and shield has tried to tackle
Two for the price of one in most cases. Less painful if you want to grab a dozen for practice mags.

Haven't had any issues with Magpul yet. I think they're probably just as reliable as factory mags.
The Mec-Gar mags for my Shadow 2 are superb, I’d never hesitate to buy any mags from them!
I felt the same way until I bought some Ruger Mark II magazines from them.

Actually, I still feel the same way about Mec-Gar they make great magazines I just would suggest staying with factory magazines on those particular pistols.

Yeah, Glock magazines have been 100% reliable for me for decades and they're cheap. I see no reason to buy any other brand. Since metal and plastic magazines are not compatible with the same magazine catches, I'll stick with 100% Glock parts.

And, no, I don't need an extended magazine. If I'm carrying a small gun, it's because I need it to be small and concealable. If I need high capacity, I'll carry a full-sized gun with a Glock extended magazine.

However, I highly recommend Mec-Gar for any gun that uses metal magazines.

For whatever its worth, the Glock G20 magazines I've purchased have all been faulty and needed the spring to be replaced with a stronger aftermarket spring to ensure reliable feeding. The other magazines seem to be fine. I would love an all-metal mag option for all of my Glock based pistols. PSA already has a metal mag that is compatible with the 43/48. It holds more rounds than the standard Glock mag with identical exterior dimensions and also a very popular upgrade for 43/48 Glock owners.

In some platforms, I prefer metal over plastic and a pistol is one of them. On an AR, I prefer polymer mags and metal on an AK. The Glock magazine already has a metal liner so why not just make it all metal.

Nope, you just needed the correct Recoil spring. 😎👍

MecGar makes magazines for a lot of companies, so they tend to be decent. I can't say Ive had much negative effects for any of the ones I have owned and run. The biggest thing they can bring to the table will be capacity increases. The dimpled bodies won't require a mag release swap, so that will be nice as well. If they are reliable, offer better capacity and aren't much more than OEM mags, they will have a winner.

An 8 round, flush fit mag for a G43 is the only thing that would have my attention.

I'm sure the G43X folks would be glad to have another ~15 rnd option besides PSA & Shield Arms.

I'm seeing 2 Hellcat options, a 19 & 17 option. What are the other 2?

Shield just released the Z8 for the G43! I'm waiting on the release of the G43 Magwell, so I can purchase a Z8 & a magwell for my 43.

And yes, mecgar with some 15's for the 43X would be absolutely fabulous. I have mecgar mags for my 92, KelTec P11 and who knows who else as a result of them being OEM mags for many gun makers. Zero doubt they would make better mags than PSA or Shield.

Mec-Gar is an OEM of magazines for other gun companies and they make really good magazines for sure. But Glock mags... 🤔

Like @Maccabeus said, unless they offer a flush-fit 8-rounder mag for the G43 (which I do not think will happen), I am not interested.

My predictions, if they come to market:

Will be cheaper than Glock OEM, to compete.
more capacity than stock
flush fit
?? lighter weight empty
wear resistant in the mag catch area
slicker to drop free ("teflon" finish)
???Uses Glock parts for replacement

What's not to like?
I'm pretty sure that will be just about spot on, though I imagine they will be priced on par with Mec-Gar's other mags. They'll be in line with an over priced standard Glock mag at 24-25 bucks probably.

This 100% ^^^^^. OEM mags aren’t expensive or scarce enough for me to seek out aftermarket examples.
Does it make sense to buy an after market Glock 17 magazine for one extra round when it would come from a magazine manufacturer known for top tier quality mags that work? Probably not.

Does it make sense to buy that aftermarket mag from the same company knowing it will be uber reliable for a slim line gun, knowing it will net you 4-5 extra rounds because Glock won't redesign their mags for higher capacity, and other aftermarket mags are not exactly the best? Most definitely. That's the mags that will be in demand and sell.

I get that, but in a small ccw, I don’t want the added weight, or size (I realize some aftermarket mags add capacity without increasing size).

I contacted Mec-Gar about Glock mags. Here is the response:

David,

At NASGW Expo companies traditionally exhibit new products to the firearms wholesalers that will be coming out in 2025. We have developed our first magazine for a Glock 17 pistol that will be available during Q1 2025. This same magazine with a sleeve will be available as an extended magazine for the Glock 19. More detailed information about the Glock magazines will be released at the start of 2025.

Also at NASGW Expo, Mec-Gar showcased a new Hellcat 9mm 12-rd and extended 14-rd magazines along with Beretta 92 Compact 9mm 16rd and extended 18rd. These magazine will be released in December and will be on our website in the next few days.
