Mass Driver Compensator: Review, Shooting Comparison & Thoughts (fixed)

Snagged this oddball comp a little while back and finally had a chance to take it out to the range. Strike Industries makes all sorts of stuff and so far it's been good to me.

If you're like me, you've probably been wondering if this thing works, will it cause malfunctions especially since it's so inexpensive, etc. I cover that and more.

Here are my initial thoughts & comparison vs my G34 without comp!

Much appreciated! I thought about comparing it to my other 17, but that would be too obvious. We know just based on the weight of the mass driver alone it should keep the muzzle down more than the 17. A better comparison would be against the 17L since it would roughly be the same length, but I don't have one of those yet, so I went with the 34. If you watch the shooting portion of the video at 2.0 speed, it will really highlight the difference in muzzle flip!

I was always curious about these as well. Being so inexpensive and knowing most of the reviews out there from the bigger channels could be paid for I had to try it out myself. My only real gripe is the lip that overhangs the slide from the comp. Other than that it's a great product.

I prefer Safariland ALS holsters. I have them for G17s and for a G17 with pic rail and light. But neither of these work with the mass driver. Have you found a good holster for the G17 with mass driver?

If you had found no difference between the G34 and the comped G17, or if the 34 had done better, your results would have been inconclusive as to improving on the G17 without a comp. But since you found a big difference and can extrapolate to an even bigger difference with the uncomped G17, your results are impressive.

I haven't messed around with holster options yet. I think an open bottom Safariland would work well for duty type carry, I may snag one specifically for the purpose of cutting open the bottom and beveling the edges to use with this build. I set my belt up with the Safariland QLS, so I can easily swap holsters at any time. I'd imagine there are likely some competition holsters that would work well for this too, but that's not really my thing. It will fit the 6 & 7 series Safarilands, but they will need to be modified (chop the bottom off & bevel) to fully seat and be able to draw without the comp snagging.
