Just noticed that my stock original 2003ish magazine for my 26 has a rattle. Still works and all. Is this normal and I just never heard it? Sounds like something is loose in the bottom.

I am nervous about taking it apart with the spring and all.

Ideas?

Sometimes mine do, sometimes mine don't, often a good wack on the bottom stops it. If it functions don't worry about it, I marked a few of mine early on (20 years ago on some) and never had a jam related to the rattle.

Never mind, Do what is in the video above. A video is worth a 1000 words.

How does the base come off? I assumed you depress the button and slide it off?
You need to depress the button but there are two tabs you can see looking down at the baseplate, one on each side, you need to pinch the mag right above those pionts, quite hard on some while you slide the base plate off. It almost takes three hands. Some people put it in a vice upside down with two wood dowels to push the sides in a bit. That lets you make sure the insert (button) is still pushed in, you need to push it about a 1/4 inch

Thanks, got it. Actually you tubed it and the quick tips with the punch worked.

So I cleaned it and put it back together. It wasn't dirty at all. 14 year's and had never been apart but the gun does not get shot a whole lot as its my carry gun. Maybe two or three mags worth most months, just to keep skills up.

Great, Now you are set, after 14 years you might want to replace the spring, they are cheap, I replace them before they get so weak they jam. They should be around six bucks if I remember right.

Even some magazines by other manufacturers rattle. Not H&K magazines because they do not allow it...

I think all my G26 Mags rattle when fully loaded and they are only about a year old. When I jog up stairs I can notice it lol. So far I haven't noticed any reliability issues. Like others have said, must just be the way the bullets align in there. It is a little annoying though...

Rattle is normal and happens in many double stack mags, not just Glock.
Usually on a fully loaded mag. Loading down one tends to 'fix' it, as does the mag slap.
IIRC, the explanation is something like this.
The rounds will slightly change orientation (tilt up more) towards the top of the mag. With a fully loaded mag, sometimes a round is able to assume both positions. It is held in place at the rim, but can pivot slightly (the nose of the round can move up and down a hair).
If you look at some pictures of those clear ETS magazines, it is easier to see what I am talking about.
Not an issue.

Well, their proprietary magazine loading procedures help prevent it, too...

As said above, no big deal at all, tap the base of the loaded mag on your palm a few times and it usually stops.
