It is my latest have to have. I am wanting to stay under $500 if I can. I was looking at a Ruger MK1 but someone already bought it. Any recommendations out there? I plan to compete a little in some bullseye at a local range with it.

Conventional wisdom says get a Ruger or a Browning Buckmark. Plenty of different models over the years. You should be able to get the gun you want between these two manufacturers. Both have great reputations for 22 target guns.

Just for the heck of it, the KING of 22 pistols here in the US tends to be the S&W model 41. GREAT gun, but pricey.

I really like my Buckmark Practical, it's boringly accurate. Comes with a good trigger out of ths box. Easy to take apart and clean compared to the Rugers, and lots of models to choose from in your spending range. Also lots of good upgrades that don't cost much like adding a little red dot, extra magazines are reasonably priced around 20-25.

You need to decide if you want a plinker or a TARGET pistol. If you want a Target pistol, hold out for a Hi Standard Supermatic Citation or a S&W Mod 41. You won't get near one of those for $500. The Ruger slab side Government Competition won't shoot with the Hi Standard or the S&W M41, but it's close enough to put up a good showing. I have Ransom Rest tested all three guns.

Another good shooter is the S&W M17 revolver, but not all 6 cylinders shoot to the same point of impact on the Ransom rest. It's still a very respectable shooter.

Hint...... Watch your ammo. There's some real crap out there!

I agree with steel...I have a bull barrel Buckmark I purchased used @ a gun-show...and "shudder" w/o a background check...the horror...I paid $200 for it, put an inexpensive red-dot on it for another 40...and it too is boringly accurate, and with any kind/brand ammo I stuff in it
