Been thinking about this for a while --I have a bunch of Glock pistols --but nothing in this caliber.

Would appreciate a recommendation on a reliable semi auto pistol in this caliber in the $200-300 range.
thanks for any help in advance.

Don't forget the Advantage Arms conversions made for Glock. I don't have one, but would like to.

I have a Smith and Wesson 22A with the long barrel. I've used it to introduce several new shooters to the sport and it works well. It is very accurate, which helps new shooters gain confidence. I've had a few misfires, all with cheapo rounds. It has never hiccuped on any good ammo, whether standard or high velocity.

I would use it for small game hunting, but PA says only manually operated firearms.

ive had buckmarks, but if you shoot them a lot they start having issues. ive had issues with multiple buckmarks that i had bought new. my friends who shoot a lot have also had function problems with theirs after a while. since ive gotten into rugers i havent had an issue. the mark II, the clark and the stainless 22/45 were all used. the only new one was the 4" 22/45.

get a ruger.

There are a few very good choices for under $300. The cheapest, if found on sale, is the S&W 22A mentioned above. These are exceptionally accurate and reliable, as much as more expensive .22 semi's. Trigger is on par with the MKIII. They also field-strip in about eight seconds. Be aware that they also have the largest grip diameter, so not good for small hands. These provide the most bang for the buck.

The Beretta Neos is also in your price range. Their triggers aren't as good as the Ruger and 22A, but they are fairly accurate. These have the smallest grip of this group, so good for smaller hands. Almost as easy to strip as the 22A. It's my least favorite .22lr in our collection.

The Ruger MKIII's are excellent, but the only one you will be able to get in your price range is the one with the regular barrel and fixed sights. These are not easy to strip, but they are built better than anything else in this price range. Triggers are good -- not as good as the BM -- but a lot better than the Neos. The polymer 22/45's are in your price range, but they are not as nice as the MK's.

The basic Browning Buckmark can be found in your price range too. These have the nicest trigger in this group, and have a pleasing grip shape that fits most people. Downsides are minor - they need a tool to strip, and they only come with one magazine. This is my favorite low-end .22lr semi-auto, and is the one I would own if I could only have one.

I have a Glock 23 and Glock 27. Since the 27 is my carry gun, I got an Advantage arms 22LR conversion with 7 magazines and a threaded barrel from a forum.

Greatest choice I ever made. Exceedingly fun. Stays in the same platform, same grip angle as a Glock, and there's less cross platform issues since I'm staying within a similar brand.

I have a Walther P22 that I got on a trade. Fun but I'm not a big Walther fan. It's just not my thing. I also don't like safeties (except in my 1911).

I like my Tactical Solutions .22 conversion for the Glock 17/22 and paid $309. Lots of affordable shooting out of my carry gun. Used it for Speed Steel the other weekend and had 5 Fail To Fire out of at least 125 rounds. Does not sound that great but it was very cold out and the Ruger Mark Pistols had just as many if not more failures. The only gun not to have any failures was a stock Glock 23.
Good luck,
Mike

Wow!:wow:---------I can't imagine spending that amount of money and getting a pot metal gun; having owned a Sig 228 and 229, the idea of selling that kind of a gun under the Sig moniker stinks.

BTW, thanks for all the suggestions--The Buckmark Camper, Bersa and S&W 22L are all on my short list.

Just DON't buy any of those cheap pot-metal toy guns like Walther P22 or Sig Sauer Mosquito because they are slide breakage prone.

Pictures of my splitted Mosquito slide to follow soon.
I would certainly agree. Good thing that they are out of the OP's price range.

The Bersas mentioned above are fun little plinkers. We like ours a lot. However, be aware that they are not as inherently accurate as the 22A, BM, or MKIII's.
