Hey guys, i just thought i would post my thoughts and experiences regarding a PSA Dagger that i purchased about a year and a half ago. As of today, it has between 6000-6500 rounds through it and i use it as a woods carry/ instructional tool when teaching people about firearms.v
When PSA first released the Dagger, it had issues with walking trigger pins; mine had that issue and it was fixed within a week of purchase with a new set of pins being sent to me in the mail. After install it has never had that problem again.
Then came the first significant problem: the barrel had worn the rifling out within 1500rds. PSA sent me another barrel that was incompatible with my handgun because they had at some point changed the locking block design as well. My Dagger required a locking block swap to be compatible with their new barrels.
After another 2k rounds, the recoil spring needed a replacement. Issues with stovepipes and BTF led me to believe it was the recoil assembly. PSA sent me a replacement that had a stronger spring, showing that they made more design changes. I mostly only shoot +p JHP so perhaps that was a factor but im pretty sure that was premature wear.
In between 3500-4000rds another barrel replacement was required, accuracy started to suffer and wierd wear on the rifling appeared. PSA sent me an upgraded threaded barrel as a replacement.
The firing pin assembly broke a little after 5k rounds, that was fixed with a replacement from PSA. I was at the range and got a click and no bang followed by a tap-rack and no trigger reset.
As of today, in between the 6000-6500 round mark, i noticed a shift in POI and group size. Inspecting the barrel, it appears the leade is wearing out, biasing to the right.
I have reached out to PSA again, hoping to acquire a new barrel possibly a new locking block as the SW3 Dagger my friend purchased a few months ago has different geometry than mine. It seems PSA has not fully worked the issues out for the platform, much like several other products they produce but at least theyre trying.
TL;DR 2.5/5 stars, soft barrels are an issue. It takes glock parts but putting lipstick on a pig doesn't change the fact that its still a pig.
Would definitely recommend over Taurus firearms but not the level of a M&P, Glock, Sig etc.
Buy em for practice or to arm your family in an emergency, just dont expect them to hold up well with high use.
