Kimber quality?

Kimber pumps out a lot of guns. They like to make them a bit tight. That's fine if you do proper QC. They don't. I think to a certain extent they want you to shoot the thing I think 500 times before they will even take it back for repairs.

I suspect they will be fine if you are patient and willing to work on them to the extent of your capabilities. Dry firing a few thousand times will go a long way to building your skill and smoothing out the gun without firing a shot.

What’s good about them? The abundance of MIM parts or the fact that they charge forged part money for some of their models?

I think their base guns are a decent option, but the more expensive models are just ridiculous. Dan Wesson is a much better quality pistol in that price range.
Their base guns are nice guns for people wanting a 1911 with entry level upgrades without a big price tag and this isn't going to be their primary gun.

As LAV says if you treat your gun like most people treat a lawn mower, get a Glock.

Their CS use to really be bad years ago if you did need to send it back . I don’t know if that has improved or not . That would be a big deciding factor if I were ever to buy another one .

My Dan Wesson had to go back because of jamming , it never made it through the first range session . But their CS was good . Repaired the pistol and I had it back in 2 weeks . It hadn’t malfunctioned since .
Kimber takes heat because they won't take the gun back until you put 500 rounds through it. Then with LE they would only guarantee certain rounds through it. Glock changed up their mag followers like crazy in .40 15-20 years ago because of troubles with common LE ammo.

I think Kimber puts out good guns but their higher end ones just aren't worth it. I saw my local Cabela's sells a LW full size for 619. That I am willing to buy. If it came commander size in 9mm at that price I would probably go for it.

It seems fullsize Kimbers in 45 run. Anything else they make, not so much.
That's long been the advice of any gun, don't stray far from the original.

Glocks back in the day suffered when they went through DEA testing with their Glock 19. Glocls when they went to .40 had issues for a long time. Officer's Models from Colt had issues. It might be why they don't offer them anymore, just Defenders. Kimber external extractors were iffy because they were new to them unlike Smith and Sig who had done them before with other guns for a long time.
