Long time Kimber hater here. I had zero interest in the 2k11 until we got the first one at the shop. That said after a week of fiddling and dry firing, I decided I had to purchase it to see if it ran as good as it felt. And it absolutely does. Kimber hit a homerun with the 2k11. Id put it up against a Staccato P any day.

A 2011 will still never replace a Glock as far as carry guns go IMO.

You can put them side by side physically and look at them but that's where it ends.
Mine runs flawless. This is on another level compared to their 1911's. I work at a gun shop part time. Its much more then looks, that Kimber got right with the 2k11. There was no break in period. I didnt even oil it, ran 250 rounds right out of the box in about 30 mins the first time shooting it. Granted its a sample size of one but I know of some Staccatos that didnt run flawlessly in the first 250 rounds.

And I have always hated Kimber before this 2k11 came about. They were overpriced paper weights a few years ago. I wouldn't have owned one for free.

The Staccato that takes Glock mags is a move in the right direction. It sounded absurd to me at first, but the more I think about it, the better it seems. The mag is the dumbest part of a 2011.

As far as the original topic, I could never own a Kimber even with a few reports that they aren't total junk.
If I had to choose a "2011" for carry it would indeed be the HD. Seems like it was created and built more for duty, then competition or race gun. I too am not a fan of 2011 mags. Not to mention i have more then enough Glock mags already. I would have to spend thousands of dollars to have the same amount of 2011.
