Recently while on LWD's website I noticed they have for sale a 9mm AR lower that uses Glock magazines. I had already purchased a Kel-Tec Sub2000 that uses Glock mags and while I enjoy shooting it, it is not ideal for me being that I shoot left handed. Nearly every time I shoot it I have unburnt powder or some other particulate hitting me in the face. My question is does anyone have experience with this type of AR lower or the Sub2000? I like the idea of a 9mm carbine that readily accepts mags from my go to pistol(G-17). Also what might I expect to get for the Sub2000 if I decide to go the AR route?

I can't speak for the sub2000 but I have an AR in 9mm.

the issue (if you can call it that) is that the 9mm carbines are a blow back operation, so any gun you get with a right hand port will blow particles in the face of a left handed shooter to some degree with a blow back op gun. even worse when you add a suppressor.:wow::faint:

so you'll either have to live with it or learn to shoot right handed, which is a good skill to have.

even right handed shooters should be comfortable with shooting lefty.

The LWD will be better in every way to the Sub2000. I have both, the AR is smoother, less gas hitting you, has better sights, better trigger and has the ability to mount optics. I do like the fact that you can throw the Sub in a laptop case and go but that is the only advantage.

The customer service is good with Keltec but LWD is one of the best in the business. They are always friendly and taking care of their customers is top priority.

Agreed. I had an older Kel Tec Sub- - all metal version and it was great.

But for upgrades and mods, a 9mm AR-15 is the best. Now have an Oly Arm 9mm AR-15 with a 16" barrel. Can attach accessories all over the upper and the barrel.:wavey:

Agreed on all above. You just can't beat te AR platform if looking for a pistol cal carbine. I've owned 3 sub2000's and currently have the Oly arms AR which tak glock mags.

I don't know why I didn't save for the AR much sooner.

I've shot both. The are both about the same accuracy wise. The Kel Tec has a mushier trigger and needs some getting used to. I own a Kel Tec for it's portability mostly and price. It's a truck gun. Carried a lot, shot a little. It stays folded up in a computer case with a couple of extra mags.

Not to hijack the thread, but what is the "minor bolt modification" needed to use the LW lowers W/ Colt style uppers? From what it read on LW's page RR uppers don't need a mod. Is that just the best way for an idiot to go:whistling:?

I would like to add an AR that uses Glock mags to my collection.

Lone Wolf does the mod for not much money. the colt Mags are true double stack so the bolt is thicker on the bottom where it picks up the round. The Glock mags are double into single. The bolt has to be narrowed to fit between the feed lips on Glock 9mm mags. It reportedly does not need to be modified if you are building a .40 or .357 sig. The mod does not need to be done on the Olympic Arms style upper. I thought the RR used the Colt style upper but I could be wrong. I have a CMMG upper, the bolt mod is simple for around $20 if I remember right.

Thanks for the info. This might be a good plinker for the indoor range this winter.

i had the sub2k for a bit but mine choked whenever i got it hot or dirty. it was ok in theory for its intended purpose but hopefully it didnt call for more than a mag at a time. my sight also needed to be reglued after the first 100 rounds.

i then thought about building a 9mm AR but if im going to carry a carbine, i might as well carry one that can do what a carbine is intended to do. may build one for a plinker in the future but other than that, its use in limited imho.

I took mine out yesterday, and shot the gun both strong (right) side and weak (left) side. All with a Trident-9 threaded to the front.

It worked just fine and I didn't notice any gas blown into the face. I do admit that I wasn't looking for any, either.

Sure was a lot of fun!

I threw away probably 300 rounds yesterday!

This is the rig as I ran it.

I don't know if the LWD has an optional left-hand model. As a matter of fact, I don't know of anyone who is making a pistol caliber carbine for left-handed shooters.

The Thureon Defense carbines are all (to this point, anyway) made with a right-hand ejection port. Theoretically, since our components are all machined from bar stock, we could mirror image the upper receivers, lower receivers, and the bolt bodies to make a left-hand friendly carbine. I guess that would make us unique in the industry.....

As has been mentioned, simple blowback carbines can, and usually do, blow garbage out of the ejection port. I've shot them left-handed, and it was never enough to bother me. Also, our empties fly forward when ejected, and so the risk of hot brass landing on your right arm is very small. (you should always be wearing eye and ear protection when shooting)

I think that you should try one of our carbines. You would be pleasantly surprised.

RJ, I still covet that set-up. One of these days I'll build a SBR and put a can on it... Then YOU will be whining to me.
