My enthusiasm for the IWB has been waning over the past few years. I got on the wagon with some sweet IWB holsters from many manufacturers and did that for a while. While carrying IWB though it was never a favorite method with some pants fitting tighter and adjusting clothing to cover. I tried many holsters and am not looking for recommendations on XYZ holster that you "forget it's there". In an attempt to stick with the IWB carry I went to smaller and smaller pistols than were thinner than sliced bread and still found them not really curing the problem.

OWB just flat out feels more comfortable and I can carry larger pistols that I shoot better. A lot of my time is outdoors so an OWB is a great fit and there are not a lot of people around to give you that scared look. I've picked up some wonderful OWB holsters and even some in some great leather combinations. Now I carry with an OWB and a shirt untucked over it or a long sweatshirt. This summer I'll most likely go to a pocket carry with a small auto which is doable but I still like the larger caliber shooters.

Again, not looking for holster recommendations.....just wondering if others feel the same way and is this becoming a trend? Or am I just an old fart that falls back on the most comfortable carry ?? I think that there may be some postings about being an old fart!!!!

Because of my boney hips I could never get real comfortable with IWB at 3-4 o'clock, so for a long time I carried OWB. In the last couple of years, I found that AIWB tends to be comfortable 99% of the time with anything the size of a G19 and smaller and is very fast to access. When nothing else will work for certain occasions, I will pocket carry but it is so much slower to present a gun from a pocket holster and the only thing that I ever felt was "pocketable" for me was an LCP.

All of us just has to find the right fit for our body-type, everyday clothing, etc, which explains why most of us have a boxful of holsters.

I carry a full sized G20 IWB and have no issues with it.

Some of my pants are sized to work well with IWB but OWB works always. I have an OWB holster from 1441 gear for my P229 and I've shocked a few people by showing them the pistol, then the holster, and then demoing how they both disappear under a sweatshirt. I'll admit, however, that my <cough> natural shape <cough> also helps.

Nope.

My clothes, holster and body are all used to my carry setup and location. IWB is flat more comfortable for me.

The few times I OWB are far more uncomfortable with new poking and rubbing spots my body is not used to, unless it's way off the body OWB like my hunting holsters and whatnot.

I carry a full sized PX4 Storm IWB at about 4:00. I can feel it pressing against my hip bone, but it's never been to the point of being uncomfortable yet. . . although I've never had to carry for long stretches of time yet. So we shall see.

But yes, OWB is just plain more comfortable.

Appendix carry I assume would be more comfortable after you've already been through the pain of discovering why Rule #2 is in place. That's a harsh lesson though.

I made the same journey as the OP. I started out with IWB but this winter I bought my first OWB. I find it more comfortable and almost as well hidden. I have have had a few accidents with my IWB where the weapon fell down my pants leg. OWB seems more secure. I may change my mind when it the weather warms up but I doubt it.

G19FS OWB at 4 o'clock.

Before that, 1911s OWB at 4 o'clock.

Before that, S&W K frames in various barrel lengths OWB at 4 o'clock.

Before that, S&W K and L frames OWB on leather duty belts at 3 o'clock.

Seeing a trend? :)

VERY rarely the occasional "Mexican" carry of a J frame .38 or Makarov, or a pocket full of NAA Pug but, as noted, it's rare.

I agree with you completely Bluescot.I carried IWB for a couple of years. It was so uncomfortable I quit carrying for a few years until my state passed open carry.I now carry owb with a longtail Duluth t-shirt everyday.I have too much stuff in my pockets to pocket carry.I have since sold most of my IWB holsters.
