I won't buy a 9mm unless it has a threaded barrel.....

.....or an option for one!

Buying suppressors (Gemtech Alpine 22LR and Liberty Suppressors Mystic X) is one of the smartest things I ever did for my gun collecting hobby! If you have never shot a suppressed 9mm (or 22LR for that matter) then you don't know what you are missing!

My next can is going to be a .45, most likely the Liberty Suppressors Cosmic.

Any other "suppressor nerds" on here? Do you only buy guns that will accept your suppressors?

BTW, given a choice in the same gun between threaded and unthreaded, I prefer unthreaded. I find having to remove and replace the thread protector every time I field strip the one pistol I have (with a threaded barrel) to be an annoyance.

I also find it an annoyance to have to periodically check (and usually tighten) the thread protector during range sessions. I'd simply rather not have it... Not even to "have the option in the future."

If I somehow decide to get a suppressor for a gun in the future, I'll just buy a new threaded barrel.

I use a to size high temp rubber grommet that's sold in Home Depot, Lowes, etc. I never have an issue with the thread protector coming off. Screwing off the protector litteraly takes a few seconds once in a blue moon. To each there own. Just happy everyone has options.

I perfer a threaded barrel if possible myself. It's a no harm no foul thing for me. It's there if I want to it in the future, and it doesn't bother anything by being there other than maybe holster selection.

I can't really think of any application I'd use a pistol suppressor for. It totally changes the handling characteristics of the gun. Maybe varmint shooting in a context where you were far enough out of town for discharge to be legal, but close enough in that it would bother neighbors? I don't do anything like that, though.

Do you plan to keep the suppressed handgun in your car with a copy of the tax stamp?

I will be keeping the stamp in my wallet, with me at all times whenever the firearm and suppressor are with me.

Are you prepared to do the necessary paperwork if you plan to cross state lines with it?

I hardly ever travel out of state these days, so I'm not worried about that aspect.

Are you prepared to lose it?

What do you mean by "lose" it? Taken from me by a criminal? No, I will fire until empty in that case.

If you mean law enforcement, they would have no reason to take it at all once I show all of the correct and proper paperwork.

Where will you keep it?

On me, holstered, if outside the vehicle.

One of the pistol mounts if inside my vehicle.

Have you handled a suppressed handgun inside a vehicle?

No. This will be my first suppressed firearm at all, ever. That's why I am more than willing to get other people's input on the subject who may be able to provide some personal knowledge and experience with them.

Do you think it will be unwieldy?

I'm sure it will be.. different, to say the least I guess. It will take a lot of getting used to. But if it can protect our eardrums, I think it will be worth the compromise in the long run. I know I can conceal one, that isn't the issue for me.

With regards to carrying a suppressed handgun, have you ever wondered why nobody does it?

No. I am sure there are people who do carry suppressed. They likely just dress around the gun. Please correct me if I am wrong on any of these at all. I am here asking about this to learn, not to troll.

Are there any reputable instructors that advocate or train people for it?

None that I have met in my area, no.

The pistol does have raised night sights ready for a suppressor though, along with being already milled for an optic. I currently have a Springfield Armory HEX Dragon installed on it and I love it.
