Hey all,

Was checking out some handguns the other day and came upon a 239 and checked it out. What a beautiful pistol. I've never owned or shot one, but I have read a bit about them and seen plenty of posts about them over the years here and there.

I wondered how many use this as a primary CCW pistol or at least have it in heavy rotation.

The negatives to me are the price in that it's a whisker away from $900 and the weight. It weighs almost 30 ounces and is an 8+1 9mm pistol. Granted, the other choices out there that most make to use for their carry piece aren't nearly as nice or refined as the 239 is. Say what you will about it, it is a darn nice weapon that feels great in the hand. I'm sure it shoots just as good as it looks too.

What do you all think?

Those that have it as a carry piece, I'd like to hear your thoughts and experiences with it.
Pics of your rig would also not hurt one little bit...

One more thing, which VERSION do you own or carry? Since SIG has about 83 renditions of the 239, it's tough to keep them all straight....

Thanks for your time.

I have an older plain jane P239 in .40 that used to be in heavy carry rotation. I picked that gun back then because it was smaller than other options, I would shoot lights out with that gun, and it was 100% reliable with all types of ammo. I really trusted that gun, if I were to ever need it.

On a range trip a while back, my wife picked it up and shot it and decided that it was her new nightstand gun so I put a set of Crimson Trace grips on it and thats where it still sits. I believe I ended up getting a Springfield Armory EMP 40 shortly after that.

Nowadays, there are other slimmer, lighter options out there. But I can guarantee that I can shoot that P239 better than just about any other gun I've carried including the Shield I carry now. Might have to steal it back one of these days...

Yes, I carry the super ninja tactical Navy Seal lemon meringue Equinox cherry edition P239 with the rainbow slide. :whistling:

Seriously though, I had a two tone in .40. It's certainly a very nice quality gun. However, as you mentioned, heavy, low round count, and for all that I didn't find it to have much of a grip purchase for a not so small gun.

If you like the size and can shoot it well, you will certainly will be well served with one.

My wife carries a 9mm 239. My sons main work pistol is a DAK SIG 239 in .40. Wish I'd got wife to go with a SIG 229 now for the increased capacity since she carries in her purse and size isn't a real factor for her. I carry a G32 or SIG 229 in .357.

The fire control on a p239 is the best available. The gun conceals very well, despite its weight. In order to carry it, you need a proper belt and proper holster. But, given that, it is a pleasure to carry and absolutely wonderful to shoot.

Bob Mernickle did this holster for me.

I own one. They are great shooting and ultra reliable. However, you are exactly right about the weight. There are now so many great choices in equally reliable guns that are easier to carry. The PM9, Shield and Solo are just three that come to mind.

I hated my P239 because of the factory short trigger. One of these days I'll put a regular trigger on it and see if it makes shooting the gun more fun. Then I might put it in the carry rotation.

I gave one to my favorite niece when she turned 16. Because of her smaller hands and short fingers, she liked the factory standard short trigger. Last I heard she still carries it.

Yeah, but how are these tiny guns shoot when compared to the P239? Not to mention reliability.

I bought an early P239 SAS in .40. DAK trigger. I bought a Barsto 357 SIG barrel and magazines. I've carried it almost exclusively off duty every day since I got it.

Utterly reliable, small enough to carry appendix, very accurate. It's big enough to shoot like a duty gun. Small enough to conceal.

Buddy saw mine, shot it and went right out and bought the 9mm version. He switched to a P229 for a few weeks and went back to the P239.

In the DFW area, holler. You can shoot one.

I would be reluctant to spend ~$900 for one - as suggested it shouldn't be too difficult to find a decent condition used one for around $500.

My step dad carried one in a Galco shoulder rig for a long time. He loved it especially because he trained on the 226 with his department.

I carry one daily in .40S&W and depending on my needs, will switch it out with an older Sig P229 in .40S&W. I don't mind the little extra weight because the weight negates the added muzzle flip of the .40 round and I'm back on target quickly. I love the trigger system and can hit quickly and accurately with these guns. And, they are extremely well made, quality pieces. I won't give up my 239. Love it. I carry it in a black Winthrop OWB holster and it rides nice and tight to the body.

I felt the same about the grip being to small. Other than that I liked it, but ended up selling it. Think I'd rather carried the 225.

I have a 9mm P239. Shoots great but I don't carry it. Prefer to carry something else.

I appreciate reading this discussion. I was thinking about the 239 for a while but ultimately got an M&P Shield. This confirmed that the 239 would have been nice many years ago, but the contemporary carry weapon is in the more modern Shield and Shield-like firearm.

I've got a P239 357 Sig bought LNIB for $550.
It's 100% reliable and very accurate.
I carried it for some time.
But I've got other choices just as reliable/accurate.
That are lighter and have greater capacity.
So she lives in the safe.

It's a sweet pistol though.
SRT with a trigger job.
The DA is like butter and the SA is crisp and clean.
IMHO it's a fine concealed carry gun.
