How Does the CZ-75 P01 or CZ-75 Compact PCR Stand Up to the G19??

Hey all,

I've got a G19 and like it quite a bit. Lately I've been looking into the CZ-75P01 and the 75 Compact PCR as alternatives to the G19.

In the videos that I watch on the P01, these people literally sing the praises of this pistol like it is the finest pistol made and available today. They talk about it being the most accurate pistol they've ever shot and owned and how it passed some kind of trial by going thru some various insane tests that no other pistol could come close to. I haven't seen many videos on the PCR, but they like this pistol as well.
I've never handled either of these, but did play around with one of the 75 Compact Turkish made clones. It was a comfy pistol, no doubt. I don't know that I'd trade my 19 for one though. I'd like to handle and look at one of the P01's too and see how it felt and handled. Even better if I could rent one and shoot it. With all the indoor ranges in the Houston area it would take some time to call around and find one that has a P01 for rent though.

I thought I'd just ask you guys about them and see what you all say. Is there anyone here that would swap their 19 for a P01? Why or why not? What about the 75 Compact or Compact PCR?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on these CZ pistols, if you don't mind.

Thanks for your time.

I had a P01 several years ago. In fact, it was somewhat rare in that it was an early model with a PCR rear sight and the accessory rail without the locking groove cut in it. Great ergos and very well made. I think I paid about $400 new. The only thing I did not like was the decocker. Had the CZ custom shop been around at the time, I would have had a manual safety installed and maybe a single action trigger.

I currently own a Glock 19. All things considered, I prefer the 19.

I wouldn't/didn't "swap" anything out. But, I've been impressed with the 75 variants that I have "trigger time" on.

Then again, I haven't put 70,000 rounds downrange with a CZ. But, I know a couple of Glocks that have.

We own a CZ P01 and the Glock. The P01 feels better in the hand and shoots very well. Our main complaint against it is that the slide is narrow and sloped with thin serrations, making it relatively more difficult to rack for loading/unloading. The paint coating on the CZ seems slippery and does little to enhance the traction.

The Glock is not as ergonomically friendly to shoot, but that big ole square slide with deep wide serrations is easier to manipulate than the CZ, especially when things are stressful. We like shooting the CZ, but consider the Glock the better carry piece.

We trudge on.

For a daily carry piece the G19 is very hard to beat. The G19 is lighter and thinner than the PCR/P01; therein lies its main advantages over the CZ. The Glock is no more reliable than the PCR/P01, meaning the CZ's are supremely reliable pistols. The CZ's are more accurate than the Gloock. And for most (but not all) the CZ's will be more ergonomic. The only ergonomic down side for the CZ's is the long reach to the trigger in DA mode, but if that's not an issue for you personally, then it's just not an issue.

The P01 is now available with the Omega trigger which offers an improved trigger pull, and it can be swapped from decocker to a traditional thumb safety; this is good news to me personally, I may have to pick one up now.

If you don't mind the extra weight of the CZ on your hip, I think you'll like the PCR/P01's as a carry pistol, they're very user friendly pistols. People don't like them, they love them.

I own the full size all steel CZ SP01 and it is a great gun but for me it is only a range pistol. I have handled and dry fired the CZ P01 and it is a nice pistol but I was not too impressed with the trigger and have not had the urge to buy one especially considering the other compact pistols I already own.

I also have a Gen 2 Glock 19 that I bought new in the early 90s and just love it. It still is 100 percent stock. I personally would never trade my Glock 19 for a CZ P01. IMO the Glock 19 is possibly the best all around pistol ever with a proven track record for performance, reliability, and durability.

As always try out whatever you are considering to see what works best for you.

I have a Gen2 19, a CZ P-09 and want CZ 75 D PCR. I'd never sell or trade the 19. Right now the PCR is sort of hard to find unless you want to over pay about $100. I'll wait to find one at the right price (low $500s, free ship, no tax, transfer fee of about $35.

I have the decock mode on the P-09. It has grown on me. The pull in single action has (for my taste) a lot of take up before the break. Double is heavy. I need to shoot it more to see if I can get past that. If not, may send it into custom and get it worked. I really don't like that idea, kinda a last resort. I like the ergos, but would really like to do the head to head comparison.

Another thing about the PCR. The top of the slide has groves that run front to back and a chambered round indicator. Yes I have heard the warning about relying on the indicator vs press check.

I wouldn't ditch the 19 but the P-01 is a great 9mm handgun if you are looking to add another option to your range bag or carry options.

Ergonomics and the trigger are better (IMO) on the P-01 but the 19 is a little easier to carry and you don't have to fiddle with a DA pull or a de-cocker.

Days before I got my G4/21, I had put together a custom order with the CZ custom shop. They make GREAT firearms, but as stated by a previous poster, the slide proved difficult for me to charge due to the available surface area. Ergos are just outstanding otherwise, but when you compare maintenance and reliability with that of a Glock, they fall short.

That's part of my personal criterion for a combat pistol, so I went with Gaston's design; I can only afford to have one gun for HD and carry and I wanted it in 45 ACP. Despite it's size, the 21 is much more more flexible than an all-metal CZ75. When I have space for a fun gun in 9mm, I'll look at CZ again.

CZ 75 pistols are great. I owned a CZ 75 compact and found it very reliable and accurate. The only reason I sold it is because I like to work on my own guns, and having owned upward of 60 handguns, I find 92 series Beretta's, and of course Glocks, to be the easiest semi-autos to work on, so I tend to gravitate to those two brands. If that's not an issue for you, you will enjoy the CZ very much.

I recently bought a used PCR. Took it to the range and loved it. Very accurate. It's a little heavier then the G19 but about the same size. Feels awesome in the hand. The only negative for me is the sights. They are not easy to change like a Glock and not a lot of options. I shot it so well I'm going to try carrying it. Typically I like smaller guns for carry but going to give it a shot.

Like the Glock it can take larger mags from CZ 75 and SP-01.

I shoot both the CZ P01 and the G19. Both are very good firearms. I prefer the CZ P01. For me, I prefer the feel of the CZ. Although I seem to be accurate with the G19 at reasonable distances, I fight I am consistently more accurate with the CZ. I also prefer at decocker to the Glock safety system.

I own multiple Glocks and CZ's including a G19 and a P-01. The Glock is lighter, little thinner and holds one more round. The CZ P-01 shoots better, feels better, has a better trigger, and useable stock sights. I have always have felt that Glocks are a bit overpriced. They are super simple so there is not a lot to them (lower cost to produce), but they still include those junk plastic sights that must be replaced immediately.

I absolutely love CZ's, but the fact is I carry a Glock 26 pretty much 100% of the time. I would carry my P-01 often if I could find a holster I like for it. I usually carry the G26 in a Galco King Tuk and probably just need to pony up for a Crossbreed Supertuck for the P-01. I think a P-01/Compact/PCR would be a great addition, but even to me I probably wouldn't replace my 19 with one.

The Glock and CZs are two completely different pistols. The CZs are heavier, metal, and have a hammer. I have both the compact and P01 and like both. They have, in my opinion, good fit and feel to me.
Both are very accurate and I have run a few thousand reloads thru CZs with no problem except it seems these type pistol have tighter/shorter chambers than Glocks and other main stream poly guns.
I have owned the Glock 19/23 and prefer the CZs.

Head over to topshot range. They have a cz75 sp01, cz97 and a couple others to rent. Its a nice range. I rented both the 75 and 97 a few weeks ago and enjoyed both of them. I noticed they had a used custom shop cz75d built with the smaller frame when i was in today. looked like a really nice gun.

I've been carrying a PCR for 5 years now, I had a Glock 19 that I gave to my Bro-in-law as a gift. (he loved it more than I did)

Its just a little heavier than the Glock and though its listed as being wider, its only wider at its thickest point (the decocker) and feels much slimmer than any double stack polymer gun that I've ever handled.

The slide rides inside the frame, rather than outside. That drops the bore axis super low and makes it slimmer too. The only drawback to that is that some people find it more difficult to rack the slide because less of it is exposed.

The Glock has many great points, the weight, size, capacity, parts availability, simplicity.... but the looks, all metal construction and the fact that I prefer DA/SA for carry keep me with the CZ.

Another big advantage is the Kadet Kit. CZ has a high quality 22lr conversion that works on any of the metal framed pistols. 9mm CZ slides and frames are interchangeable too. I can put my full size CZ 75 B slide on the PCR frame and it runs just fine. (long slide compact carry)

The P-01 and PCR are the exact same gun except the PCR has a Chambered round indicator on top of the slide and different snag free sights as well as sight cuts, and the P-01 has a rail with standard CZ sights. I personally don't have need for a tac light on a gun that I plan to CCW and the rail just adds bulk for carry.

I just discovered that CZ Custom has Night sights for the PCR in stock. (New for 2016!!) I plan on getting some of those and sending it off to Cajun Gun works to let them do their magic on the internals.

Nalapombu - I live in the Houston area and would be glad to meet up for a range session if you're interested. Just PM me.

I' d like to tryout a CZ but I am a STRIKER fired Snob. Love the consistency of my G17/G19 and G26.
If I had spare funds I'd love a CZ P07 or a Beretta PX4 Storm G model.

Variety is the spice of life.

I have had lots of different guns trying to find some kind of perfect thing. What I have found is there is nothing that works better for me then a Glock.

My first gun was a Glock and I really liked it. But I had this naggin feeling that their must be something better.

I about 20 other pistols. The only center fire pistol in my safe today is Glock and Kahr.

I have tried pretty much everything else and for my needs nothing does anything better.

SO I have pretty much quite trying to find something else. Just buy a new glock if you need to scratch the itch to buy a new pistol.
