Holsters while wearing sweatpants

Holsters for sweatpants.

With the Covid19 making me hang around the house more, I am wearing my sweatpants more and more other than just to the gym. And if I have to go outside for just a little while I won’t necessarily change but will arm up.

While I have used IWB holsters on the sweatpants waist string time to time this is less secure than I am comfortable with . I prefer to wear one that has its own “belt” under the sweatpants.

Out of all the holsters and belly bands I have collected over the years, here are some I have or continue to use.

The Brave response appendix holster.

The latest to my collection. It fits all of my pistols with adjusustments. The Velcro tab over the trigger guard pulls the butt of the gun closer to the body as well as prevents something from pushing thru the fabric into the trigger well. ( unlike a lot of a lot of the belly bands out there). The tension of the Velcro closed belt material holds the gun well. I can wear it at both at 4 o’clock position or appendix in comfort. It is more versatile than the
orginal brave response holster, uses less material and I find to be more comfortable.

The most comfortable sweatpants holster I have is the pistolwear PT-2

The neoprene material is very comfortable. The pouch is held snug to the body and securely holds the firearm no matter the exercise. There is no bouncing up and down while jogging. The magnetic clasp holds the pouch closed. The downside is a slower draw in part because the gun is carried horizontally rather than vertically. But it is so comfortable. It fits full size service guns to the smallest 380s

The 3speed holster

The 3speed holster was a good try. It was comfortable in normal weather . But there was a little too much material toward the bottom of the “cone” . It would rub a little while running in an appendix position and would be sweaty on hot days or heavy exercise.

One of the nice perks of this holster is that if you order it for a double stack Glock, all of the double stack Glocks.

Smart carry holsters

The smart carry holster was a good idea where the holster would be carried at the 12 to 1 o’clock position low inside the pants. The comfort level depends on the gun carried and how loose on the hips one wants to carry it. I save it for the firearms that have an exterior safety and when I have a need for deep concealment and still want to be armed. Besides the slow draw, the big downside for me was I didn’t trust the material covering the trigger well. It felt like something could poke through enough to cause the trigger to discharge. A couple of YouTube videos show it is hard to do but it can be done

The material is still thicker than it’s competitors such as thunder wear and other clones. But if it would be better if it had a kydex shell or something to ease the fear of an ND because something poked through the fabric.

The tactipac combat appendix IWB holster addresses that problem with it’s hybrid shell construction.

The holster is quite comfortable and very adjustable in cant, and height. The hybrid of kydex and a synthetic material is comfortable unless you want to carry appendix at the 2 o’clock position. 12 to 1 o’clock positions are very comfortable but if you want to carry at the 2 o'clock position, the edge of the kydex can start to dig into your side/leg a little bit.
And it is not comfortable trying this version of the holster at the 4 o’clock position.

The big downside is that it’s custom for each firearm, and a long wait for the order to come in.

sorry guys. I had issues trying to upload the photos. I will try to edit them in later.

I too tried several. I’m a coach so I spend a lot of time in sweats or shorts, but sometimes find myself needing to run errands before or after practice.
I ended-up going with the smartcarry. It seemed to be the best for me, my build, and my G-19.
If a ND was a concern you could slip a mic-holster on the pistol before inserting it into the smartcarry.
When I first starting testing the holster I tried to dry fire my 19 (unloaded of course) through the holster.
The only way I could get it to fire was if it was lying on a hard surface. When it was on me I could not get it to fire.
Thanks for your comprehensive reviews.

I used a mic-type holster with the smart carry for awhile but I thought it might be much if I had to draw it. I just don’t use it with guns without a thumb safety.
I tend to keep going to the pistolwear for the comfort. But the brave response is new and its growing on me.

The smart carry works great for my lifestyle and my Glock 42. I have no qualms about carrying chambered at all. Whenever the environment permits, I go to my belt. But the smart carry is always on to fall back on if the situation changes. Extra magazines are stored there when I go to my belt. Sometimes my wallet or flashlight or box cutter go to the smart carry as well.

Just got my smartcarry for mg G42. So far very comfortable and does not print even with a Pearce +1 mag extender. And yes just for my own peace of mind-- I use it with a MIC holster.

I also put a piece of duct tape at the end of the holster (outside and just below the sewed-on patch) where the tip of the slide rests to help in the holster's longevity as this is the point where the holster scrapes your pants.
