I recently bought a 1791. Plenty of retention with no thumb snap. Its very nice. $60ish. Mine is commander size but here is 5".

i have a few if these and am very happy with them. The dyes match very well between the belts and holsters which I wish I could say for Bianchi.

 

Yeah curious about them as well. Available overnight off Amazon, and the prices seem too good to be true. Seem to have great reviews and the name keeps popping up.

 

I bought their belt also. Very happy with the rig...especially for the money. I have kydex stuff for plastic guns but wanted leather for 1911.

 

There are tons of holsters for the 1911. Being a full frame pistol you have to look first toward what is you purpose in carrying.
2nd, your desire for soft or hard , kydex, leather etc.

Do you which to have retention or no retention. Light attached and if you have a red dot, threaded barrel.

The one I have opt for all the items listed is ORPAZ holsters Orpaz Defense Holsters
Has good trigger coverage, solid retention, adaptability to configurations and adjustable to different pistol. I.E. T41 is being used for 1911 and adjustable to fit a glock 19 and Canek TP9

 

Sure, I’d say a leather high ride OWB style holster, don’t need retention but never a bad idea if unobtrusive. This is for a classic 5” non-railed 1911 with no optics, single side safety. Idea is concealed carry at 4 o’clock.

 

Was fortunate to have a few handmade leather holsters by @MCMLXIII that also included a leather magazine holder. OWB with a thumb snap…

I’m not sure if he’s still making them or is hanging around, but it’s worth a DM to him.

He’s an incredible talent and his 1911 holsters are amazing. He also happens to be a really great guy too

 

I like Galco and DeSantis

From what I've seen, current Galco holsters exceed your projected budget. I am also not thrilled by the durability of Galco products. Still, remember that leather holsters are an expendable item - if you use it constantly, it WILL wear out, eventually. Some sooner than others.

I believe the MS holster over $200 is still a better value than any $100 holster out there.

 

They are just plain gorgeous. Damn. Maybe I’ll keep an eye out for a nice used copy.

 

I used to carry mine in a cheap Triple K Skeleton belt holster and the same holslter worked well with a Colt lightweight Commander which was a better carry gun.

 

I have a few (dozen). My favorites are the Bianchi Askins Avenger, Galco Gunsite Holster, and Galco CCP paddle holster. I don't think any of those are in current production, but Galco makes a version of the Askins Avenger. I also like the Milt Sparks 1AT, but they generally cost a lot and I don't have one for a 1911.

 

Coincidentally my most expensive holster is for my cheapest gun. My G30.5 rides in a Southern Trapper MVP, but that was a gift from my wife and days “DAD” down the side, so it means more to me than any of the other pistols.

 

I've always carried mine in a Stoner Stormer shoulder holster. They are very well made and only around $300. I gave the 1911 to my son but it also fits my CZ 75.

 

Milt Sparks is my go to for the 1911 but I also like TT Gunleather. TT makes good stuff.

My other question with Milt Sparks is how the heck do you buy it? He’s got a 40 week wait on holsters right now.

 

You order one or two a month until you have one for every handgun you own.

 

If it's just about hiding a big gun, I've got a We the People carbon fiber IWB I picked up used at a flea market. I've heat gun molded into two different pistols, an XDM 4.5 and a Sig P226. I have carried both for day trips and places where you want a substantial sidearm. It handled both with surprising comfort you practically forget your wearing them. This one is working fine but you can bet I will be ordering from them in the future. And just so you know I probably carried a 1911 on and off duty, more years than most people here. This was in the days when a summer special or Safariland 27 was about the best you could do.

 

My old Bianchi 19L duty still works fine. Bianchi still makes them.

 

I really like the Don Hume 721H. It was only about $60. The leather is nice quality, and thin - very comfy! Hold tight to the hip! Superb product!

 

All great selections. Anyone ever consider small of back with a more extreme cant? Seems like a 5” 1911 would disappear.

These 3 cover it all for me and have for years. They look bad but still function perfectly. The snao on is an old Alessi made for me by Lou himself when he was still with us.

You may want to check out the President model in Mitch Rosen's Express line (mitchrosen.com). It is available in three color choices both unlined for $105 as well as lined for $145. I've used Mitch's products for years and have been very happy with his work.

I have the 1791 BH1 holster that I got in a store, and consider it an excellent value for money. It was followed by orders for an SCH (Smooth Concealment Holster), a Single Mag Pouch, and some of their plain belts. If you only have one holster for a 1911, I think the BH1 is an excellent all-rounder. Shipping was free and quick.

 

I really like my FOBUS holsters. Cheap, very functional and looks great with my Browning.
