Holosun SCS-MOS-GR: First Impressions

I bought a Holosun 507C a few weeks back for another project and immediately fell in love with the ring / dot reticle. So I decided to get a Holosun for my Glock 34 gen 5 MOS. The SCS seemed like the way to got and I got it installed today. "Installed" sounds a lot more complicated than it is, actually just use the two M3 screws that come with the SCS and bingo, it's on the slide.

First off, I am very impressed with the quality of the Holosun. The manufacturing quality is really good. The sight looks robust while still being compact. The SCS looks and feels like a top of the line product. Fit and finish are great. It looks like it might have come standard on the 34.

I love the green color of this optic. My 65 year old eyes seem to like it better than the red on my other red dot sights. I have products from Vortex, Docter, Shield, a Russian red dot, Eotech and a Holosun 507C. I am looking forward to trying it out at the range.

The glass has a slight bluish tint but is still ver sharp and clear. I can instantly pick up the reticle.

When the sight is turned off, the standard Glock open sights are as easy to use they were without the sight. I actually like the stock Glock sights. OK, I admit it.

I do sort of wish it was possible to adjust the reticle brightness manually. There is an override to increase the brightness, but I would feel better if I could choose between manual or auto as on the Holosub 507C. This may not turn out to be a problem once I get it to the range.

The on off button is a bit hard to activate. Don't cut your fingernails too short! On the positive side, I think it will be practically impossible to accidentally hit the button.

The only real sticking point - and this seems to apply to most Holosun red dots - WHY don't include a silicone cover in the box with the damn sight? Having to go back and order an extra cover any pay like twenty bucks for it does not leave me smiling. So increase the price if you have to, but include a cover with the sight!

All in all, I'd say this is THE sight to get if you have a Glock with MOS. It's compact and still easy to acquire while allowing for full use of the stock Glock sights. And did I say I love that ring dot reticle? Yes!

I have one on my G20gen5 MOS and had the same complaint. However, I tried on the cover from my Swampfox Sentinel, and it fits just fine. So, try one of the covers off your other RDS's.

You may find that the dot/reticle pumps out a bit too much light in low-light conditions. Switch to just the dot and you'll probably be happy.

I have this sight co-witnessed with Ameriglo standard height irons for my G45. IMO, there isn't a better combination out there right now, and certainly not when the cost becomes a factor.

I put an SCS on my G47 that has Ameriglo sights from the factory. I like it a lot. The dot for longer shots and the circle for blazing fast shooting at closer ranges. It may replace the G34.5 MOS with a DeltaPoint that I use for matches. I now have Glock Performance Triggers on both. If I add an SCS to the G34 they’ll be pretty much the same gun. The two triggers are within an ounce in measured pull weight.

Made it to the range yesterday evening and easily zeroed the sight at 25 meters. It was pretty close right out of the box. It does seem like the brightness is slightly more than I would prefer, this is due I think to the lighting conditions at the range and the difference of shooting from a space where it's darker than where the target is located. The green reticle is sharp and clear, which is great.

The SCS has a setting to temporarily increase the brightness by pushing the button and I wish it had one to decrease it too. Better yet would be the ability to switch between auto brightness and manual.

Still, I am very pleased with the sight. The dot is great for precision shooting and the circle dot for closer distances and rapid sight acquisition. It is also a real plus to be able to turn off the sight and use the standard, open Glock sights.

One thing I noticed, before going to the range I used a red laser bore sighter to check zero. The laser dot was bright and easy to see on the white wall I using, but when looking through the SCS the red laser dot on the wall was almost gone. I think this has something to do with the blueish tint to the glass in the SCS.

I really like the way the SCS blends into the Glock slide. It looks like it belongs there. Holosun did a great job on integrating their product design into the Glock.

Noblex here in Germany had a similar product to the SCS on the market a few years ago. I had one. It was a failure and they withdrew it from the market. Imposible to zero as it used a tiny tiny Allen key and would not hold a zero once you finally got there. Everything the Holosun does right, the Noblex got wrong. I thought at the time this is a huge market opportunity considering the giant user base of Glocks with an MOS.

I also have a Shield sight and they offer a very low profile mount for the MOS. I like the Shield sights very much but now that I have tried this Holosun, it seems to me to be the way to go for getting an excellent red dot (or green in this case) optic on a Glock pistol with MOS. My SCS won't be leaving the Glock 34 anytime soon!

If you are looking for a red dot option for the Glock MOS, I suggest giving this Holosun SCS strong consideration.

I have one on a Glock Model 45 and Ihave several other Holosuns and they are good optics. The SCS really is a game changer on the Glock as it sits so low and you can use factory sights. I actually may be selling one if my pistols sells here local as I am buying a custom rifle soon. But If I buy another Glock MOS i would buy another one in a heartbeat.

The SCS does not have the shake awake feature. You have to manually turn it on and off using the tiny button on the side. Theoretically you can just leave it on but I turn mine off when the gun is put away. The button is not easy to use but it is basically impossible to accidentally push, so that is a plus point.

I mounted an SCS on my 45MOS last week and torqued with a FixIt torque stick to 15 inch/pounds.

First sighting in round found the SCS bouncing on my forehead, the screws sheared off. Took it to my gunsmith to remove what was left of the screws from the slide.

I contacted Midwest Optics where I purchased the SCS and they replied back within 15 minutes that they had not heard of this being a problem. I sent an email off to Holosun at the same time, and as of today (a week later) still have not heard from them about info or replacement screws.

It's the second time I've emailed Holosun and been disappointed. First was about obtaining another tool to replace one I misplaced. They asked for my address back in early June but it still has not been received.

4 Holosuns here in the room with me. I doubt there will be a 5th due to poor communication.

Try Battle Werx in Connecticut for American-made screws.

Follow up to my G45 with the SCS-MOS: I heard back from Holosun Friday after finding a Holosun contact on Reddit and emailing him direct. 30 minutes later I had an email from customer service with a case number. He promised free replacement screws but said reimbursement for my gunsmith’s charges to remove the sheared off screws was up to “management”. He wanted photos of the install (which I don't have because the pistol was at the gunsmith being repaired).

He did not say when the screws would ship.

Gunsmith called Friday afternoon and said it was done - screws removed and new ones, US made, installed with the SCS. $125.

6 day turnaround is good in my neck of the woods.

I doubt Holosun will cover the expenses, and based on my previous Holosun experiences, I doubt I’ll receive the promised screws.
