Hogue 12" LOP Stock vs. Maverick 88 Stock

Man, I wanted to like it so bad for my Mossberg 590a1, especially since the factory stock lop was too long, but the hogue was just too short for me. My thumb woulda busted me in the nose. Thankfully, I ordered from amazon, so the return was easy. Lots of folks like them, though, and every body type is different. But, if I remember correctly, you’re a taller man, so you may end up being in the same boat as I was, and I’m only 5’ 10”.

I ended up just cutting down the factory stock to shorten the lop.

Josh, you and I are always on the same page. I "Amazon'd" it as well. With free shipping vs. ordering elsewhere it was the same price, plus I love how easy it is to return stuff.
Great minds

I hope it works out for you because it really is a nice stock. I especially like the overmolding which really makes the grip, well, grippy.

I'm trying to make my 18.5" Maverick as short as possible. I've had adjustable LOP "tactical stocks" in the past and I wasn't impressed with them. I have a Limbsaver on the factory stock which definitely helps compared to the solid rubber piece they put on there! The other option could be to cut down the 18.5 to exactly 18". Get it from 39.5" down to 36.75".
Yeah, when I cut the factory stock down on the 590a1, I replaced the “recoil pad” with a limbsaver, as well. The recoil pad they have on there is no better than the solid plastic of the stock!

I also have 2 maverick 88s and love them both. I recently added an ATI top folder on one with the 18.5 barrel, and it resides in my truck, and the other is a dual purpose gun for me. I keep it with the 18.5” barrel for HD and also have a 28” barrel for dove hunting. I’ve had that particular maverick for many years now and have literally put too many rounds through it to count.

I bought the first one going on 14-15 years ago for $160 and the second one going on 2 years ago for $200. They really are the best bang for your buck

How is the Hogue pad if you recall? Similar to the Limbsaver? Picked up a Remington Tac-14 during this past Black Friday that will run me $280 after rebates. Was on the fence between that and the Mossberg Shockwave but the $40 difference won me over.
If memory serves me right, I believe it was a good bit more cushiony than the factory pad, but just a tick firmer than the limbsaver. It would’ve been perfect, though.

I saw that deal on the tac-14 when you posted it and was soooooo close to pulling the trigger. I just wasn’t sure what I’d do with it. It’ll be one of those things that I’ll kick myself for when I end up paying full price a year from now.

It feels natural when holding it like you would a normal shotgun, the difference is the stock isn't against your shoulder.
I actually had the schockwave grip on the maverick in my truck and liked it a lot. Just got a good deal on the top folder and preferred the option of both pistol grip and full length stock. You’re right, though, as it does feel natural.

I'll post up pics once i'm done modifying it. I pretty much finished modifying my Sequoia except making an access plate in the factory skid plate for easier oil changes and now I'm modifying my guns.
Ha! I just cut an access in the skid plate for the Tundra on Saturday!

Like I said- Great minds

TOO FUNNY!

I'm going out to this company on Wednesday to develop something for the 2007-present Tundra/2008-present Sequoia hopefully.

Man, I’d buy that in a heartbeat. I’m on my 3rd factory skid plate right now. I’d love to have something thicker than the standard skid, but the only real option I have is the TRD skid, and it won’t work with the winch bumper I have on, so I’m stuck with the thin guy. Still does an OK job of protecting, but sacrifices itself in the process... Plus I’d like to have a little more coverage going further back.

Keep me up to date with what they say.
